No its not an excuse but it is a very real reason why people have trouble making ends meet. Should people be spending more than they have? No. But the government is to blame for greatly exacerbating the problem. Government/Politicians' answer: tighten your belts. Many families have to work multiple jobs just to make ends meet. Then those who don't understand come back to government to help them. Meanwhile, those rat politicans steal us blind and live high on the hog. Big Government is our greatest political and economic problem!

I agree, but this isn't the first time we've been taxed to death, or taxed to death all of a sudden. You live within your means after taxes. Is it really that hard to understand?

Gov’t is the problem. Trouble is, is that enuff people are living off the backs of the taxpayers that it is problematical that this country will survive.

LOL I hear ya! I’m by no means wealthy, but I do live within my means. And if I get into financial trouble, I know it’s MY fault. Not the government’s, or how I’m taxed. I drive a ‘93 Mercury Cougar, and it runs great. Sure, I wish I could own a newer/nicer car and house, but I’m content. That’s what life is all about, right? If you’re dissatisfied, do something about it. That’s what the American Dream is all about.

What I fear is that the next administration will be looking at taxing the 401k type retirement accounts. An “emergency, one time only tax”, no doubt.

That's what Pelosi wants to do right now. Tax our IRAs and give the money to illegals (welfare, free healthcare and education). Obama would most assuredly get this done, and perhaps McCain as well. As we all know, his love for illegals is strong. Who knows what benefits (aka, taxpayer dollars) he'll afford non-citizens.
This is driving me crazy. I hear yet another Sam Adams Octoberfest calling my name.

Spitzer the whore monger ousted Hank Greenberg the head of AIG.
He was replaced by a couple of incompetents who ran the company into the gutter
It's all Spitzer’s fault

I have found thru my experience working in a factory that book learning types are the worst to teach stuff to. Hands on experience is needed or at least trainability!

RE: next administration will be looking at taxing the 401k type retirement accounts
During the Clinton years his economic adviser Laura Tyson, et al put forward a plan to take 15 percent of all private retirement accounts. Take not borrow. It was a "one-time-only" exercise.
The money was to help Jesse Jackson "save" the central cities. I have not had much luck finding information on it but I do remember the efforts.
