Your daughter's
left these
on my lawn.
LOL ... very funny! I showed my daughter and she thought it was cute!
BUMP!
So that’s where the term “dog face” came from!
It’s not armored. A couple of rifle hits and it’s junk. Actually, one good fall over and it’s junk. The legs are lightweight aluminum. Think aluminum chair with four 70lb rucksacks on it.
I suppose we’ll have to have a mig weld support vehicle to support the support robot.....and so forth.
The OICW ended up as a test-bed/technology demonstrator for a variety of new systems.
a) XM25 independent 25mm grenade launcher, which is showing significant promise.
b) 25mm ammunition family
c) Barret 25mm “payload” system
d) XM307 ACSW (25mm and .50 cal)
Something like this “mule” will enter a more prolonged research stream until the technology meets both requirements and expectations. And “wiz bang” stuff like water, rations and ammo need toting. Removing it from the soldier’s pack, especially on prolonged operations, is always a good thing.
In ten years, people are going to look back on both OICW and Land Warrior and realize who revolutionary both were, as components are shrunk, batteries are lightened and prolonged, and the technology is refined. Don’t make the mistake of looking at PROTOTYPES and thinking they’re the end-item.
I’m not trashing it at all. I just think it’d be a bit more menacing and durable if it’d have more legs and some kind of offensive weaponry.
It actually took people engaged in these kinds of endeavors far less time to develop the multi-legged walk for a robotic machine than it did for the four or two legged versions. They had trouble with maintaining it’s balance for walking. Not an issue if the thing was more like a spider.
Usually if I'm out of ammo, I'd like something besides more ammo..... like about 60 other guys AND more ammo.... or some artillery or air AND more ammo.
Hey, if it works and can kinda tag along carrying water, ammo, med supplies, electronics and doesn't need food or water... might be pretty good. But I've seen mules carry a lot of stuff in all kinds of terrain with pretty low maintenance.... and in a pinch they don't taste to bad..... or so I've heard.
FOr more why the “basic load” is such a big deal

Very much worth your time, even if you are just a chairborne Ranger...
The VA is still paying me for my feet - thanks to massive rucksack loads
bmflr
yeah, my left knee finally got scoped last year and my right one is talking to me as a weather forecaster but I was thinking it was the basic load I've been eating for the last several years and not anything else I was carrying when I was young and made of steel...hahahahaha....
go Chairborne Rangers (I like Force Beefcon better)
