Plausible deniability is a fine way to escape criminal or even civil charges, where hard evidence would be required to demonstrate culpability. It's an absolutely lousy way to win people's trust and support.
If I read Obama's personality correctly, he will consider his denial of the smear successful if people decide "Well, I suppose it's possible it was a coincidence". Won't do him a lot of good, though, if the people still vote McCain/Palin.
You are quite right that using plausible deniability is “an absolutely lousy way to win people’s trust and support”. You also replied or mentioned reading Obama’s personality and I, for one, would like to see what a qualified psychiatrist might say about O’s personality much like some did during Slick Clintoon’s terms. I thought those arms length assessments were quite helpful.
