Before you start getting in your nuclear bunker and buying an electical car, Gary North predicted that Y2K could be a global catastrophe, and promoted his theories in the media and website.

So take the article with "a grain of salt." At least it is an entertaining read.

When was the last time you read of joint naval operations between the United States Navy and the French Navy? I have never heard of it.

Since Sarkosy(sp?) in now in office, this can very easily be explained.

Without other sources to back him up, I see a page with Gary North’s words on it as the EXACT same thing as a blank page.

I was a Y2K programmer. My problem with North’s general predictions back then was not what he was predicting, but what he was basing it on. He was a kook.

I would prefer to read what Bill Gertz has to say on this.

Amazing - that is the highest W to W (Wrong to Words) ratio I have read since the Paulbots were here in force.

Carrier definition has been drastically expanded.

We do joint exercises (sea, ground and/or air) with France fairly often.

NATO will be defeated in Afghanistan if Iran starts supplying the Taliban? Sort of like the US was defeated in Iraq when Iran supplied teh Iraqis?

etc etc etc

Amazingly, no comment about 'the evil Jooooos', though I am sure that was lurking in the author's mind somewhere.

I have seen other sources to the effect that we have very large naval forces currently in the Gulf.

Whether it means anything is another question.

There have been earlier major buildups, with several battlegroups in place, but nothing happened.

So either this is another bluff, or warning, or preparation for a possible war, or preparation for a definite war.

Take your pick. Who knows?

The US and France have had joint carrier training for years. Even during the Chirac years, there were joint operations.

This story loses some credibility since the author considers the Iwo Jima and Peleliu to lead carrier battle groups. These are amphibious operation carriers, not regular carriers.

Two aircraft carrier task forces, the Abraham Lincoln and the Peleliu, are already in the Persian Gulf.

It is really one carrier battle group and one amphibious assault group. The same posture we have had during slow times since Desert Storm.

A third task force, the Iwo Jima, was dispatched to the Gulf on August 22.

The Navy doesn't relieve mid-ocean, we relieve on station.

Two more -- the Theodore Roosevelt and the Ronald Reagan -- are said to be sailing to the Gulf,

Makes me wonder what other deployed carrier battle group is coming home. Again it is normal to have two battle groups deployed and for those two to be relieved on station

When was the last time you read of joint naval operations between the United States Navy and the French Navy?

When the French can't get their carrier underway we have been giving them deck time for years. We clear as much of the flight deck as possible, get out the popcorn and watch the comedy.

Aren’t the two carrier groups headed there just replacing two that will be leaving? Just normal rotation?

For starters, the Peleliu and the Iwo Jima are not aircraft carriers, even if they have landing decks.

Since when did helicopter-ships become rated as aircraft-carriers. By that logic every ship that can carry a chopper is an aircraft carrier. I wonder does this include jackup rigs and other off-shore oil-patch service vessels. If so then the oil industry has more aircraft carriers than our navy by multiple times.

Not so sure about your carrier movements. There is always a few months of overlap on comings and goings of the carrier groups. Seems not to be much there, there.

this will create an instant unified resistance movement by Muslims throughout the Middle East. This will include Sunni Muslims. The hatred of the Israelis by Muslims in the region is so intense

You should think carefully about the implications of $400 oil on your family's finances.

Don't worry, Gary. The families to whom you're addressing this doomsday scenario have basements full of 5 gallon plastic buckets of rice and beans, stacked right next to their barrels full of gold coins. :-)

Let’s see,....the last exercise I was involved in with the French Navy was off the coast of Lebanon after the Marine Corps Barracks bombing. We were acting as plane guard for the Clemenceau and the Foch at the time, when not following the JFK around. And this was AFTER we helped out off the coast of another small frachus in the southern Carribbean, the invasion of Grenada.......I guess the guy who wrote this article doesn’t know as much as he thinks he does......

This is a huge number of ships to be concentrated in one location in peacetime. ,,, This story has been completely ignored by the news media all over the West.
