It’s like a band with a hit song...you may have heard it, but the audience in the next town wants to hear it in person.

Hey, they all do this..ie stump speech. Been to several of these over the years. They all give the same speech with a little divation.

What I am concerned about is I keep having this vision of all of a sudden obama dumps biden for hilary.

“But heck, give her a break, she’s had barely a week... “

I’m just looking ahead (e.g.: next week!} I just hope I’m not seeing the writing on the wall.

No you’re not paranoid, Team McCain blows and they’re going to blow it. You’ve just saw one of the signs...

Okay. How is Obama doing lately?

What is your deal?

Am I paranoid or is this potentially a serious problem that will totally discredit her?

You're paranoid. Obama has been using almost the exact same speech for over 6 months, maybe over a year.

The “stump speech” argument does not hold up as well in this day and age.

I agree. Given all the attention SP receives, and will continue to receive until she makes a “Biden blooper,” SP’s message has to change frequently, otherwise she soon will be seen as a one trick pony.

SP’s convention lines are well known by all and one or two can be repeated and be thought as cute but they will get old soon. The “stump speach” arguement won’t work with this level of media scrutiny.

You’re paranoid. It’s called ‘a stump speech’. By the time she comes back to the same market for a second rally she’ll have a new one. For now, giving voters the successful speech face-to-face is good.

I've noticed the same thing, this is something that happens all the time in campaigns, especially after a particularly good speech.

She changed up some of her lines today, but the stump speech hasn't changed much. If you care to listen to McCain, Obama, and Biden, you'll notice that they'll do the same thing, except to the extent that they can't stay on message. Some of the sniveling media types have already noticed this, but fail to mention that generally speaking candidates go from rally to rally and say basically the same stuff. The difference with her is that we are actually listening to what she is saying.

I think the thing that is bothering you and me and probably lots of others is that we want to hear more from her, we want to know more about how she thinks. So we can know that our excitement about her is justified. We'll hear alot more in the coming days. Remember also, she is the VP nominee and she, like all good VPs will say what the campaign tells her to, I suspect that the Obama campaign will soon be wishing that Biden would have done the same thing.

" Those who should be paranoid are all those Democratic partisans who watched Ms. Hillary and Mr. Obama stating “change” over and over and over for 18 months and arguing about “change” over and over and over, without ever having an original thought on what ought to “change.” "

" TIME FOR A CHANGE "

Perhaps this is what Obama/Biden and his supporters are whinning about ?

CHANGE

you must be new to political campaigns. basically the candidate tries to reinforce the memory of the convention speech.

Ronald Reagan gave "The Speech" for twenty years.

He did alright by it.

...‘hungry markets’

I noticed that she used that phrase over and over in a couple old interviews on youtube.

The phrase she has used multiple times that drives me nuts is "serve the common good." Marx would be proud.

...Gov. Palin keeps using the EXACT same lines and phrases on the campaign trail...

You're not paranoid on this, you're a troll.

Among all of the already mentioned reasons for staying on message, I bet that most of her spare time is spent absorbing new factual material, not learning new stump speeches.

I don’t want to appear paranoid either, but I had the same observation from the other side of the pond & blogged about it thusly:
‘There is a lot to admire about Sarah Palin, and also a lot to digest about her; but each time I see a video of her speaking at rallies across America, she seems to be repeating large chunks of her speech from the GOP convention. It was a stunning speech that has earned its place in the annals of American politics, but I’m craving some new material.’

Anyway, I know they were stump speeches, but I do hope she finds some new stumps soon!

Looking forward to the interview on the ABC.

Suddenly the “stump speech” long a staple of American politics is a problem ?

Sure I would love them all to say something new and interesting at every turn. But, up til now at least, pols have gone from town to town giving essentially the same speech.

Reach and repetition.

You also seem oblivious of the enormity of what happened here.. she was called in to Arizona to interview with McCain’s staff and then McCain himself and was then offered the job. She has essentially been on the road for nearly two weeks after this huge life changing event.

The original plan was for her to head back to Alaska on Sunday for several days to retool, but they’ve kept her on the trail because she’s been such a huge hit and the voters want to see her. She’ll have a new stump speech after coming back from Alaska.

You’re paranoid. All politicians do this.

How true.

In the run up to the 2000 and 2004 elections my wife and I went to see President Bush.
Had to get at the venue hours in advance, big crowds, long lines, long wait, then the whole thing in reverse.

In both instances he gave almost exactly the same speech we saw on the TV news day after day.
People go to hear and see their candidate in person.

It's not often you will hear something entirely new.

In stories about the candidates, writers who travel with them often refer to "the standard stump speech" and how they themselves can recite it by heart after a time.

I have noticed this kind of thing go back many years and both parties.
Totally normal, not everyone watches conventions, so local TV will carry the messages to people that would normally not pay attention.
