That machine reminds me of the Death Star in Return of the Jedi, as Lando Calrissian was zooming through it on the Millenium Falcon.

“turned to a pile of grey goo”
How can they be sure it’ll be grey? Why not brown?

I don’t think the world is going to end, BUT...
... if it’s so safe, why is it buried under a mountain range?

My doomsayer personality whispers to me, “There’s a reason why there’s no evidence of intelligent life in the rest of the galaxy. At some point every species reaches a point where to better understand the Universe they build a device. A Large Hardon Collider to be precise. From that moment on, their time as a species is limited. Within moments of flipping the device on, their planet is destroyed, and their part of the galaxy goes silent once again.”

This is one heck of a big project at a HUGE expense for something nobody is %100 sure of what it’ll do.
In the end what good will it accomplish? Nothing! How any results can definatively prove the “Big Bang Theory” is ridiculous.
My bet is that IF IT WORKS it’ll just raise more questions.
Leave the switch off and read the bible, the world was CREATED people.

Maybe to isolate it from outside radiation sources?

Maybe to isolate it from outside radiation sources? good point. btw, there are some interesting youtube "simulations" of the catastrophes that people expect... ranging from CGI to live action, scientific to political.

Actually, if you listen to
