Because of him I am sceptical of all politicans who hail from east of the Mississippi River. I agree with all that you said, but with the words of Pat Buchanan, he sure had the Left's number even back in the 70's.

Agnew's crimes, or charges of crimes were known early in his term as vice President. Nothing came to pass until the “opposition media/party” felt that they had the bigger fish on the line. Nixon had blown his Presidency on a cover=up of a minor crime. Now, the jackals had him in their sights but, one small problem, Agnew was unacceptable as President. So, they forced him into the plea, Ford was appointed and then Nixon was dead meat.
