"There was $500,000 for a youth shelter, $1.9 million for a transportation hub, $900,000 for sewer repairs, and $15 million for a rail project" Let's take these things one by one:

$500k for a youth shelter - Seems like a good cause and I remember my home town using $1M of tax payer money to re-tar the roof of a local grade school and $85k to remodel the nurses office and bathroom at the same school.
$1.9M for a transportation hub - If this is public transportation, especially in Alaska, it was probably a good investment...one that all the Green Police would probably favor.
$900k for sewer repairs - a drop in the bucket for anyone who knows the $$$ spent on city contracts for such things.
$15M for rail project - Need more info but common sense tells me that all railroads go somewhere and this didn't only benefit her town.

I've seen city budgets and, even for small towns, the numbers seem astronomical for even small towns. The article also doesn't mention over how many years these appropriations were made.

One more thing. I don't know the exact number but I think, as Governor, she said "No" to about $235M for a bridge to nowhere. To me, that seems like pretty good stewardship of the taxpayers money.

$15M for rail project

You mean she got money to reduce our reliance on oil? Public Transportation (along with renewable enegry) is the holy grail of liberal politics. How can they fault her for being in favor of one of their sacred cows?

Had she not pursued environmentally conscientious policies and practice, she'd be criticized for that too. More "damned if you do, damned if you don't" muckraking from the Dims.

The grants Palin’s city received sound like sensible requests to me. It doesn’t look frivilous or greedy. She didn’t ask for salmon diet funds or money for establishing a uses for melting snow center. She asked for money to maintain her city for all the citizens.

Obtaining available grant money is what city officials do. The mis-use of these funds is where the problem lies.

I wonder how much Federal and State funds Chicago has received that went to corrupt contractors and cronies of the Daley's that were authored by Obama?

The Drive Bys are opening a can a Whoop Ass they might regret.

Yes. They try to see which one might stick. I’m sure Palin was told that anything can be thrown at her. Pray for her.
