Where did you get this? How did it get attributed to Hugh Downs?

Anyway, I found this item absolutely incredible:

“Back at school, Obama got himself named editor of the Harvard Law Review. This is a signal achievement, no question about it. The kind of thing that would be mentioned about a person for the rest of his life, as has been the case with Obama. But then... he writes nothing for the journal.

Now, let’s get this straight: here we have one of the leading university law journals in the country, one widely cited and read. Entire careers in legal analysis and scholarship have been founded on appearances in the Review, including some that have led to the highest courts in the country. Yet here’s an individual who, as editor, could easily place his own work in the journal — standard practice, nothing at all wrong with it. But he fails to do so. And the explanation? There’s none that I’ve heard.”

...but never a career screwup. (I except Jimmy Carter, whose errors arose from sincere, misguided goodwill.)

Anybody who's spent any time looking at the his dissing of the Shah would come to a very different conclusion. Carter was hardly a complete bumbling fool, his actions w/r/t pre-revolution Iran speak of a very deep corruption.

a lot of truth in that.

If you go to the page Blogger linked, you'll see why. There's a Hugh Downs ad to the left of the column, which makes it look as if Hugh wrote it!

It cracks me up looking at it, but then it takes so little to amuse me!

Well written. I especially like the left/right/up/8th dimensional move analogy.

I agree with you - Snopes is a Leftist site run by Leftist activists who manipulate information to support the Leftist agenda.

And there are Freepers who worship Snopes the way white women love Obama.

Wasn’t written by Hugh Downes.

It was written by J.R.Dunn in the American Thinker

That's one of Hugh's specialties.

The Biden part would be an interesting political move by OB. Let the convention throw Biden under the bus, demanding Hillary as VP. OB concedes the popular movement for Hill, and embraces the crowds demand. The mob gets its twin star lineup, and the love flows, except for a few lonely Biden supporters lol.

The flake has a genius for discovering solutions at perfect right angles to the ordinary world. A perfect description of Crazy Eddie, from the SF book The Mote In God's Eye (Niven & Pournelle)!

One of the best books I've ever read

Obama is not so much a flake as a delicate flower. He has been nurtured all his life by those around him. He has come to believe his own press. I firmly believe that he would wilt (panic) if a real crisis emerged. Unfortunately, if the time comes, the decisions will be in his pay grade.
