Duncan Hunter has a 92% lifetime ACU rating; Cantor a 97% (100% this year or somesuch).

I think Cantor could even please a purest like you.

;-)

I like Cantor, a lot. However, I think that McCain should choose an active or former governor, preferably one with some understanding of how the economy works and one who is conservative and understands that less government is better. To truly distinguish themselves from the Dems, you want some executive experience on the ticket. Romney is NOT my favorite, though he’d fit the bill and probably bring along Michigan (now pretty solidly blue).

I like Sanford of SC, the guy who brought 2 pigs into the legislature to blast the big-spenders in his own party. That man has a pair, and knows how to bring the fight to the enemy. He’d also solidify the South, and is quite conservative (so he’d help unify the Party nationally).

Sarah Palin might also be a good choice, but she seems to green (not Green, but green, as in she has too little experience). She’s very conservative, very principled and also happens to be female - maybe McCain could help himself by promising to appoint her to some reasonably important Cabinet-level position.

Tom Tancredo has a 98 ACU rating, and Hunter is twice the conservative that Tanc is, as much as I like Tanc. Hunter’s ACU ratings are not so high because he isn’t a China trade appeaser.

Always something, but I think you could -— almost -— hold your nose and vote for someone not completely, completely, completely pure like Cantor.

Admit it, you like the guy.

I never heard of him until the other day. I’ll get up to speed though, I reckon.

The only thing significant in this article is the statement that Obama pulled his Virginia advertising budget. Do we have confirmation of that?

If VA is no longer polled as at risk, there is zero reason to even consider this guy. There was almost zero reason to consider him even when VA was thought to be at risk because an obscure Congressman from an obscure district likely has no statewide pull.

The VP pick this year is strictly about EVs. Romney clearly can secure Nevada, Colorado and Montana’s shakiness with Mormon turnout, and his birthstate of Michigan is just too tempting to ignore.

He’s an observant Jew with a lovely family.

I’ve struggle to be an observant Jew out of respect for my mother and father. It’s a lot of work, but it keeps you out of trouble.

No, Romney would be a disaster. All Obama camp needs to do is air the primary tapes of Romney bashing McCain. That undercuts McCain’s masterful ad of Biden bashing Obama.

Is this what you want?????? Obama using Romney’s words against McCain over and over and over????? Don’t kid yourself, if Romney is the pick the ads WILL BE OUT in less than 2 hours.

Face it, Romney is now a no-go. If McCain DOES pick him, HE is now showing lack of judgment...........

Holy crap, that’s a scary picture. You look at it and say, “ I know these people, but from where? Then it dawns slowly. And you run screaming from the room.

Romney is, of course, the best tactical choice for EVs. Dem ads will be out within hours of anyone, regardless of who is selected to slam them on whatever prepared reason they choose.

This is a non argument. Romney is the only candidate who can help with marginal blue and marginal red EVs. There is no need to throw red meat to states already won.

Well she is a Governor, a lifelong NRA member, runs marathons and was born in Alaska. Sounds tough enough.

Wrong again. Romney is the worst tactical choice - and I'm not the only one saying this. Many political pundits have said this.

"Another bad idea when it comes to veep choices is the idea of nominating one of the Republican also-rans. I have heard Thompson, Huckabee, and Romney's names trotted out at varying points. All of these are poor selections. Each candidate this year manifested glaring political weaknesses. Thompson was a lousy campaigner. Huckabee was not a believable fiscal conservative. Romney seemed willing to say anything." Real Clear Politics

"However, Romney would still be a bad choice for VP. McCain — along with much of the GOP political establishment — doesn't seem to understand the depth of the concern about Romney's Mormonism among GOP evangelical voters." NW Republican: Romney as VP Choice Would Sink McCain. You may not like this one and but there it is.

A List of Reasons Romeny Would Be A Disaster

"Even those who openly admit their distaste for Romney believe he would be a loyal footsoldier for McCain if tapped. But Romney would bring a large (and ambitious) political team with him into the vice presidency, a group of people loyal first and foremost to Romney. That may be a potential problem McCain would rather avoid entirely." The Case Against Mitt Romney Veep short-listers mix positives and negatives

This is a small sample just googling Romney negatives as Veep. Search around just here on Free Republic and you'll find a whole lot more.

In fact the only ones continuing to shill for Romney are either liberals in the media salivating at the prospect so they can tear him to shreds based on his flip-flopping positions, Republicans wearing blinders refusing to see Romney's negatives thus violating cardinal rule #1 in VP selection Do No Harm, or Mittbots who so desperately want Romney in the White House they they ignore the tremendous division he would bring in throughout the GOP.

Romney is the worst tactical choice because whatever votes we may 'gain' with him will be offset with the votes he will 'lose' by half the Republican party which detests him which includes McCain!

Well, If John McCain picks Eric Cantor, will they dare to attack him because he is a Jew ?
That puts some Democrats/Liberals between a rock and a hard place because they know they hold a heavy Jewish vote, but, would love to attack a conservative Republican.

I totally agree that picking a conservative governor would be very good and that’s why I think that Mark Sanford would work. Cantor is also a good pick. He is rare. Not only is he a Jewish Republican, he is a solidly conservative Jewish Republican. Most Jewish Republicans like former Sen. Jacob Javits and former Rep. Benjamin Gilman, both of New York, and current Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle are very much in the “Rockefeller Republican” mold. Still, I think someone with executive experience is the best pick. I could support Romney, but his past positions make him a bit questionable.
