This entire episode reminds us “Saving the planet” is about the ability and willingness to kick somebody’s butt, not about the silliness of a “carbon footprint.”

"If Moscow insists so indignantly that minorities have a right to secede, why doesn't the same rule apply to Chechnya? Or to Daghestan and other Russian internal regions chafing under Moscow's oppression? Why haven't the media noticed that moral equivalence?"

Because Socialists have Fairness Deficit Disorder.

But he’s losing the battle for the hearts and minds of the masses.

That doesn't count for much in some wars. The "hearts and minds" of Eastern Europeans were anti-Soviet, yet their countries remained conquered territory until the Soviet Union collapsed from within. Similarly, none of the small captive nations ever liberated themselves from Nazi conquest, even when the population supported guerrilla tactics. Saddam Hussein lost the "hearts and minds" of the Kurds and Shiites, but they never liberated themselves. We had to do it for them. Many wishful-thinkers underestimate the ability of totalitarian regimes to control populations.

“Saddam Hussein lost the "hearts and minds" of the Kurds and Shiites, but they never liberated themselves.”
And in the end, Saddam lost.

Think big picture.

Read my post. Saddam was defeated only by a massive invasion by a superpower (us). Populations of totalitarian nations almost never overthrow their masters. It’s wishful thinking to expect them to do so.

“Read my post. Saddam was defeated only by a massive invasion by a superpower (us). ”
This is the big picture.

Saddamn made too many enemies.

Saddamn was squashed.
“Populations of totalitarian nations almost never overthrow their masters. It’s wishful thinking to expect them to do so.”
This is the small picture.

Georgia won't squash Russia by its self.

However, Georgia + all Georgia's friends + some time, may ultimately put so much pressure on Russia that Russia starts to take on a squashed appearance.

The subject of my original post was the big picture.

And yes, I read your post. ;)

Russian Dark Lord's shadow falls across the shires of freedom once again

Thank you for a good laugh. Now I see that US retired colonel-generals receive good pension, at least they can afford quality weed. I even took the job to translate the article to share it with Russian compatriots.
