Who does the territory of South Ossetia belong to?
Regardless of the population, who does the land itself belong to? How can you commit “aggression” against yourself?
What they should have done is expel all Russians from that territory. Then they can’t claim that Georgia attacked the “Russian people”.
To: dirtboy
And it turns out he neglected to mention he's Russian.Funny.
You seem to have discovered that in short order.
And so what?

"It looks like Putin is a lot smarter than anyone we have in power." That's the truth.
And it's troubling.

What about the 100% Human population of South Ossetia that over time would have done better as citizens of a free Georgia rather than as serfs under a rejuvenated Russian Czardom?
I think it's important that South Ossetians decide what leadership and culture they want to live under, and as they're essentially broken away from Georgia, one must assume that they don't want to be part of Georgia.
It's not for the west to decide if they will be better off long term with Russia or not.
Living in the EU is far from free by the way, our culture has been massacred by the EU, our populous is indebted to foreign banks, our entire reliance on future energy supplies is dictated by the very Czardom you speak of.

Because the Russians told him so.

Actually, you can buy that mass-produced bumper sticker in most "Christian" bookstores.
I never go to Christian book stores. Perhaps I can find one at a freak bookstore.

And here we have it. He is a Russian citizen.
To: XR7
You seem to have discovered that in short order.Amazing thing, Google. I searched his name and this was the fourth or fifth item. I guess it would have been too much trouble for you to do the same.
And so what?
If I have to explain why to you, you're beyond the help of logic and reason, because you have deliberately chosen to disregard them.

It looks like Putin is a lot smarter than anyone we have in power.
I think he is very smart, but I'm not sure if reading comments on FR that the US media correctly exude how much of a powerful position Russia is in. This issue is of extreme importance here in Europe.
Russia has immense wealth, has allies of countries with immense wealth, and those factors together in this current energy climate, means they hold ALL the ace cards.
There's lots of subterfuge here, Sarkozy is scared, the EU is scared about this.

So what? You ommitted that he was a Russian? And you want to post “All is not what it seems”?
To: Lilith Incubus
We are scared over here, but Europe should be very scared. He has them in a chokehold with the oil supply, especially come this winter.
Not to mention the fear of invasion itself.
This is a pivotal moment for Europe and what they do now will set the course of history regarding the current Russian ambitions.
