Other spies...
Arthur Schlesinger Jr., a historian and special assistant to President Kennedy; Sterling Hayden, a film and television actor whose work included a role in "The Godfather"; and Thomas Braden, an author whose "Eight Is Enough" book inspired the 1970s television series.
Other notables identified in the files include John Hemingway, son of author Ernest Hemingway; Quentin and Kermit Roosevelt, sons of President Theodore Roosevelt, and Miles Copeland, father of Stewart Copeland, drummer for the band The Police.

Extraordinary lady.
I have her two-volume "Mastering the Art of French Cooking". If you really want to cook in the classic haute cuisine style, this is your guide.
It is very time consuming though. With her instructions, I made a perfect Boeuf Bourguignonne . . . but it took six hours!!!!!

Yes, it was common knowledge, but official documents never released.
The one that surprised me was the father of the drummer of The Police.

Yes. The Moe Berg story is told in the story “The Catcher was a Spy”. Moe was a brilliant eccentric.

Moe Berg was quite a unique person and life.
i had his biography once, but learned the lesson of not expecting a loaned book to be returned. Good read, though.

NO short cuts with her.
I loved watching her show. Especially when she took a little nip of wine.

I'm not sure what this all means. What did she do? I thought Sterling Hayden was a known communist sympathizer and black listed. Moe Berg is a great story. Isn't he the guy who wouldn't read a newspaper if someone else had already opened it? I remember reading the story as a young man, and ever since it's a habit that I've had. Of course, I got ribbed in college and still do...People know how to rile me. They'll pick up my paper before I do and rifle through it. Then I won't touch it. My ONLY quirk.

This is a really OLD story.
So far as I can determine she was a cousin of mine. I am still trying to work out the exact relationship.

In 1941, at the onset of World War II, Julia moved to Washington, D.C., where she volunteered as a research assistant for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), a newly formed government intelligence agency. She and her colleagues were sent on assignment to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), an island off the coast of India. In her position, Julia played a key role in the communication of top secret documents between U.S. government officials and their intelligence officers. In 1945, she was sent to China, where she began a relationship with fellow OSS employee Paul Child. Following the end of World War II, the couple returned to America and were married.

Somewhere I have that photo of her swinging a large omelet pan like a baseball bat . . .
A formidable lady, in the best sense of the word.

Yes, the story is old for all those who knew about her but the documents have never been officially released until this week.
