I'm beginning to think this article was utter BS. Bob Costas intervewed Mark Spitz and Michael Phelps together latst night, and Spitz was incredibly gracious, calling Michael's performance "Epic."

Furthermore, when Costas tried the "who do you think would win between the two of you" question, Spitz, after acknowledging how silly the question was, said, "I'd like to think it would be a tie."

Phelps responded with how honored he was to be a part of an elite group, saying of Spitz "Once an Olympian, always an Olympian. No one can ever take that away from you.

Both did honor to themselves and to their country.

I was just coming on this thread to post exactly what you did! He was almost OVERLY graciuos...a bit fawning, but gracious none the less and he looked very sincere...seemed almost on the verge of tears. It was very moving.

And speaking of gracious speakers who represent US well, anyone see the interview with Kobe Bryant???? The interviewer goaded him when he said he was proud to represent the US and how he teared up when he put on the US uniform...it was great.

I guess that when they see a camera they just automatically go into remote control mode...

I think there are some who do have huge egos—you don’t reach that level of ability with a strong belief in yourself—but I also believe most are like Kobe, who said he felt goose bumps when he first got his USA uniform.

What a bunch of bitter - jealous couch potatoes. Here we’re looking to find out if Spitz was on a Wheaties Box while wondering when Phelps will get his turn and we come across this nonsense...get off your lousy butt (and I’ll bet fat) and go for a few hour swim and then you can ‘post’ on our exceptional athletes and their humility.

"Why can’t Koe Bryant rack up medals in slam-dunk and three-ponit contests?"

Fencing should branch out into multiple events/classes. Epees, Samurai swords, sabers, knife-fighting... THAT would be awesome!

If its a lie, it’s been one I’ve been maintaining for years on F.R. with details of lifts, competitions, and freepers showing up at events and spotting me later night on ESPN2 (the only guy with a kippah).
