1) Polls have tremendous value to campaigns. They are used to measure response to message and to determine where to campaign. They are not, by any stretch of the imagination, useless. Millions are paid for them.

2) Obama’s team has a compulsion to get him perpetual exposure. They have come to believe that his appearance and demeanor are everything. They are taking an enormous risk in that the public is going to become immunized and desensitized and if he goes to Denver and gives his speech and the poll numbers don’t bounce, THAT will be the story — how for the first time ever a Democrat nominee did not get a bounce out of his own convention, especially when McCain does get one.

3) They have seen the recent Colorado numbers showing a McCain lead. They know Ohio is showing a huge McCain lead. They are facing a situation where they MUST find some electoral votes and that is what Kaine in Virginia is about. They can flip Iowa and New Mexico both, but that’s not enough EVs flipped to win if McCain holds all the rest of Bush’s 2004 states.

4) Virginia polls will be interesting, because that is where the “Wilder Effect” was invented.

His speeches are like cotton candy for many. Sweet and tasty while you’re eating it, but entirely forgotten the moment you’ve finished.

Love this one... LOL... He NAILED it!

Congratulations to Obama for becoming a statesman and a world leader.

I'm going to a ballgame and a movie this week; by the weekend, I expect to be a major leaguer and Academy Award winner.

I heard Frank Newport of Gallup say a little while ago on MSNBC that McCain had a very good night in last evenings Gallup polling, and that will be reflected in today’s Gallup Daily Tracking Poll (it’s uploaded on their site every day around 12:00PM EST). Obambi is not having a good time.

You got it - Polls are useless when the model weightings are constantly changing (for political push-poll reasons). Which is exactly what all the MSM polls do - They changing their weighting models in order to try and push the public's opinion....

Reality is this is McCain's race to lose....Not Obama's to win at the end of the day....

Hmmm. . . I wonder how big a Bradley effect is included in Obama’s poll numbers. If it’s even 5% he’s screwed. And our 527’s haven’t even opened fire yet.

Obama will be our next president, regardless of what this poll or any other says. He will carry California, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, Delaware, Maine and possibly North Carolina.

This one was good too:

Before anyone gets too carried away at the sight of throngs of Germans swooning over Obama, I urge you to remember that these are the same people who buy millions of David Hasselhoff records.

I think that credit goes to Joe Della-Camera.

Of course there's always the one kool-aid drinker in the bunch:

Obama would not only be able to lead us to a little common sense, truth, strength and prosperity, but also bring back some of the dignity and respect we had before President Bush came along.

Dignity and respect?

he goes to Denver and gives his speech and the poll numbers don’t bounce, THAT will be the story

Honestly, I think that the big story out of Denver will be how they switched to a larger venue, and were unable to fill it. A 20,000 seat venue that's filled to the brim and turning people away adds to the Obama "mystique". A 60,000 seat venue with 10 or 20K seats empty says "Why didn't this sell out?"

I could be wrong, might depend on how desperate the Dems are to put butts in the seats. Free concerts, Free Food, Free Money (want $20? Just be sitting in your seat when Obama speaks....) will be the name of the game at his "coronation".

We'll see. I think that story #2 might be the Dems that riot.

Things are looking very bad for Obama. He just gave his best
shot with his world tour to try and reverse the trend toward
McCain. Meanwhile McCain has been doing to Obama what Clinton did to Dole in 96. CLINTON went heavy on the air in swing states defining Dole and by the time the summer olympics were over , Dole was done and couldn’t do anything to reverse it.
McCain has the trend and is opening up a lead and has been
on the air heavy in swing states defining Obama.
Obama won’t need a swift boat. The funny thing is , this
is a strategy designed by Dick Morris.

I agree with you 100% -- except for the part about Colorado, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, and North Carolina.

The McCain List.

Rasmussen confirms that McCain is gaining while Obama's "Berlin bounce" has completely faded. Obama has squandered a net lead of 7-points in the last four days. This gives credence to the USA Today poll with McCain leading among likely voters.
