At the summit of the Group of Eight (G-8) nations in July 2005, leaders from all eight participating countries committed to increase aid to Africa from the current $25,000,000,000 annually to $50,000,000,000 by 2010, and to cancel 100 percent of the debt obligations owed to the World Bank, African Development Bank, and International Monetary Fund by 18 of the world’s poorest nations.
Hah of cource the RINO libs Chuck Hagel, Snowe and Susan Collins are on board! What about Lugar?
Ack, mistook Lugar for someone else. Lugar is the old creep that sided with Reid on Iraq...
If you do a search at The Patriot Room website it has a piece on this.
I’m new so I hope I did this right.
I E mailed luger, as I’m a constituant.
Asked him why he co-sponserd this bill.
Doubt I’ll get a reply
I recognized Lugar as a liberal democrat when I moved to Indianapolis in 1994. I don’t see how he is able to fool so many people.
Amazing that Collins and Snowe are marching in lockstep again. No idea why Maine elects these two yahoos every 6 years. They’ve got as much in common with Republicans as Obama does.
I don’t get it. Where does the bill say that we are going to take $8000 from each American family? Is that your estimate of what it would take to end global poverty?
It gives 0.7% of the US GNP for Global Poverty Relief per year. I work that out as roughly $1225/family/year, assuming $43,743 per capita share of the GNP. . .
If you take the time to wade through it, you will find that we are NOT just talking about money here. Gun control, control of pharmaceutical companies, compliance with Kyoto and much else is on the line here. ALL under the auspices of the UNITED NATIONS!!!
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!
For obvious reasons the MSM is not talking about this. Why the talkers (Rush, Hannity, Levine etc) aren't screaming is beyond me.
bttt
Another way of looking at it: In 2006, the median annual household income was $48,201.00 according to the Census Bureau. 0.7% of that works out to be $337.41.
In any event, not to worry. This is just more U.N. posturing, what my government prof used to call “an international kiss.” Nothing will come of it. The U.N. voted to do exactly the same thing in 1970. No effect. Now they feel like it’s time to make the same empty promise. Big deal:
“Rich Nations Agreed at UN to 0.7% of GNP To Aid
Recently, there was an EU pledge to spend 0.56% of GNI on poverty reduction by 2010, and 0.7% by 2015.
However,
The donor governments promised to spend 0.7% of GNI on ODA (Official Development Assistance) at the UN General Assembly in 1970some 35 years ago as of writing
The deadline for reaching that target was the mid-1970s.
By 2015 (the year by when the Millenium Development Goals are hoped to be achieved) the target will be 45 years old.”
