Much of Catholic teachings are only loosely based on scripture and rely heavily on opinions of Popes.
Myers’ 15 minutes of fame are up.
Taxpayers are paying to have this bozo teach their children.
Yes, I imagine the “death threat” business was made up out of whole cloth by this student, who should certainly be disciplined. What evidence has he given to support his accusation? Of course, decent Catholics would be greatly upset by such blasphemous action, but a death threat would be extremely unlikely.
As for the professor, anyone might fly off the handle and say something stupid in an unconsidered moment. Then all he need do is apologize.
But that is not a possible defense in this case. First, he posted these insults on a public web site, which means that he acted deliberately and with intention to offend. Second, he repeated them a second time when he was rebuked and asked to apologize.
I think they should fire this sorry bigot, who is clearly unsuited to be teaching young people in a reputable school or college.
What you "think" you know about Catholicism wouldn't fill a teacup.
Did I state something that is untrue?
As with all men there are good and godly and bad and evil ones, that's why Scripture has withstood the test of time and my faith is based on God's word rather than men.
I repeat, I respect the Catholic church and their faithful, the one institute that stands up to the evils of secularism and the culture of death.
These little tit-for-tat discussions regarding something very profound and mysterious seem extremely puerile, do they not?
Try John 6:53-58 for starters:
“53 Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.
54 Whoever eats 19 my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.
55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.
57 Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.
58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”
“Did I state something that is untrue?”
Well duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
I’m off to Mass to receive the Body of Christ but you can spend the rest of your day smearing the Catholic Church & the Holy Eucharist if you are so inclined; I have more important things to do with my time than to read more inaccuracies from FReepers who “think” they know Catholicism.
I’ve posted links that explain the Holy Eucharist.
Do yourself a favor and read & study them before you make any more remarks.
Good day.
Where did I smear Catholics? Catholics readily admit as much of their teachings come from traditions as from scripture. You make so many false accusations and personal attacks, I am not even going to bother to address them.
How strict is tenure at the campus there? If he can be fired, he should be.
“I am not even going to bother to address them.”
Good, then I won’t have to read any more posts from you...
as if you had a clue about the subject. LMAO
Based on your own private interpretation which contradicts the teaching of Christ, the Apostles, St. Paul, St. Jerome, the Church Fathers, et al.
You don't know what I think or have knowledge of
Since you claim to have vastly more knowledge on the RCC,(you probably do, but that in itself does not make me ignorant) please point out where in Scripture or related writing, texts, or anywhere historically legitimate source that claims the "bread" of the communion phyiscally turned into the body of Christ outside the man made teaching of the RCC.
Christ himself, you know the Lord, that guy in the Last Supper picture, tells us in his own words, those red letters in the Bible, it was symbolic
The bread or wine itself is not holy, just a symbolic gesture to remind us of his supreme sacrifice and we should take it as an self examination of our relationship with him, Our Lord
The hypocrisy of Catholics amazes me. They have no problems trashing Protestants beliefs, but just mention )correctly I might add) that much of Catholic teachings are based on traditions and you are viciously attacked as a bigot and ignorant.
Your opinion is incorrect.
Really! My private interpretations are straight from the Greek text. No where in my reading of the Greek do the words of Christ say anything but what they mean.
Kindly show me the teaching of Christ, the Apostles, St.Paul St. Jerome where the body of Christ turns into the a wafer
You mean opinions of popes play no role in the Catholic churches teachings? I know Catholics believe Popes rulings are divinely inspired and equivalent to scripture, but from a non-Catholic perspective they are nothing more than an opinion. I still see nothing wrong with what I said, and fail to see why there seems to be so much offense taken.
Indeed, just as Scripture teaches,
"Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle." 2 Thessalonians 2:14
"And we charge you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother walking disorderly, and not according to the tradition which they have received of us." 2 Thessalonians 3:6
because
"But there are also many other things which Jesus did; which, if they were written every one, the world itself, I think, would not be able to contain the books that should be written." John 21:25
“please point out where in Scripture or related writing, texts, or anywhere historically legitimate source that claims the “bread” of the communion phyiscally turned into the body of Christ outside the man made teaching of the RCC.”
Already have, all you have to do is follow the links I posted, read & study them... “expert.” LOL
Ya, know you non-Catholics who “think” you know Catholicism should stick to your own beliefs instead of coming on Catholic threads and exposing to the world what little you understand & “think” you know.
Good day.
