I think nothing is with them. There are millions and millions of high school students in the US and well over a million teachers. I doubt the number of incidents are that high in proportion to those numbers but with millions of people you will have a good number of exceptions and those are what gets reported. People keep hearing about those incidents and they get a false picture about how common it it.
To begin with, the very premise of your question reflects a common but unhealthy view, i.e. that sex is no more than a satisfying activity. For a fifteen year old boy to "have sex" with a 27 year old woman is a violation of relationship boundaries on several levels, not the least of which is that healthy sex occurs in the context of a mutual attachment.
I don't doubt for a minute your childish fantasies about sex with an adult but that does not mean it is either normative or benign to have them carried out in reality. This boy especially but in fact most fifteen year olds of both sexes are not emotionally equipped to handle intimacy at this level. Like it or not.
The harm is done to the development of a healthy and adaptive relationship template which will serve the boy when he matures. It will in all likelihood interfere with his later ability to engage in useful, appropriate, and essential non-sexual relationships with female people in his environment.
The technical term is hypersexualization, meaning that from now on this boy will look at all females through the lens of sexuality rather than differentiating them according to their roles, and rather than seeing women as people he will see them only as potential sex partners. I know we have a lot of juveniles here who will wonder what's wrong with that, but wait until you grow up, you'll get it then.
Perhaps her female 'caregiver' instincts endeavored to help cure him or elevate the IQ quotient up a few tics beyond 50. 'All you need is love'.

It is truly sickening that female sex predators are not treated nearly as harshly as men. Doesn’t matter motive.

No disrespect meant here but do you actually believe your boy would tell you he "pops a woodie" every time he sees Suzie (or Nancy or Sophia or...). The single most powerful instinct in homo sapiens is survival and the 1st job of any species, assigned by Mother Nature is species replication, this is a polite way of saying it is natural for young people (boys and men most especially) to want to screw their brains out and while they may not engage in this as much as they want to they do think about it most of the time. You take a normal and genetically programmed physical act and assign all sorts of mysterious potential maladies to it. In fact sex is pleasurable as nature meant it to be. Since job 1 of any species is that of procreation what better way to assure this then to make it an action one seeks to repeat over and over again?
We have over the ages, as we became more “civilised”, shrouded this physical act in mystique and those who see it as somehow not “right” have sought to limit it’s expression by placing all sorts of caveats on people doing what comes natural. If people, young or old feel bad or guilty about doing this then it is because we TELL them they should feel guilty.
I believe when a human being is ready, physically and emotionally for the act of sexual intercourse his body and mind will tell him that. I do not advocate the forcing of sex at anytime on anyone but in the case of these women teachers having sex with their students, who are willing and able to respond to the invitation, no harm is done and in fact the self esteem of the young man is most likely elevated as would his standing among his peers.
We have laws that prohibit those of a certain age engaging with others younger then a certain age and that is fine. Violators caught must be punished. But let’s not confuse punishment for breaking a law with believing the law prohibits an action that is harmful to the younger willing person, with the real reason for the law which is many see sex as something a bit unseemly but necessary and therefore needing to be highly regulated.
Boys are mentally ready for sex earlier then girls but girls are physically ready before boys in most cases. This tells me that the reason girls are not mentally ready is because out culture TELLS them they are not and they must guard against the male of the species who after all only wants one thing (he does).
I don’t mean to pass judgement on those whose beliefs differ from mine but I am merely telling it as it is, or was because I was a youngster at one point and lived through the whole thing of growing up and emerged quite happy and I feel pretty well adjusted.
BTW, regarding your claim of my childish fantasies of sex with an adult, you are perfectly right. However consider that adulthood begins, legally at 18 years of age and as a 12-17 year old I was indeed attracted to “mature women” in Playboy, Penthouse, Nudists International, and even the Sports Illustrated swimsuit babes. I would have gladly jumped in the sack with all of them one at a time or all at once and don’t think for a minute it would have done me a bit of harm. You may remember that until fairly recently masturbation was considered a very serious vice which would ruin your future sex life, cause anxiety, pimples, blindness and grow hair on your palms.
Now I’m not saying teachers should be allowed to have sex with willing male students but that is not for the reasons you state but because discipline and respect in the classroom would be lost (I know, I know, it has already been lost) and THAT is harmful to children who need to be taught the basics of education AND respect for their elders.

I know what you’re saying, lex, but thinking and doing are two different things. I’ll bet my unmarried, 22 year old nephew who has to work two crappy jobs to support two kids for the next 15 years would have thought twice if he knew the consequences of his poor choices. He’s been screwed alright.
The key phrase in what you said is “if he knew”. Sure but he didn’t and more to the point at that age thinking about the future means what your doing that evening.
Bottom line is show a 16 year old normal male a cute ass and he’ll plow through a brick wall using his di*k as a battering ram just to get at it.
