I disagree with Ed Koch on many things, but he doesn’t hate the country. Good luck with the 5th Party since the Greens and Conservatives are 3rd parties already.
The Liberal, Right to Life and Green parties died in 2002.
You need 50,000 votes statewide to keep a column at the voting booth.
FReepmail me if you want on or off my New York ping list.
Thanks for the ping!
** ...more pragmatic & sane than far left ...**
I live in Ithaca... the Retirement home for HIPPIES.
The liberals in this town (most of it) makes San Francisco seem SANE. These LIBS had a THANK YOU Demonstration for Congressman Maurice Hinchey for Co-sponsoring another IMPEACH BUSH BILL. You might want to rethink your definition of Pragmatism.
Upstate NY used to have a population and a tax base. Where did they go? Places with better weather. Now NYC is its tax base.
NYC’s economy was originally built on industry. However, the NYC economy has changed periodically, unlike some industrial economies that just died. It was realized that the dirty stuff could be kept in Jersey.
NYC may get power and water from the hinterland, but overall Downstate is paying for Upstate, not the other way around.
I agree that Upstate (starting perhaps at Dutchess and Orange counties) should be made a separate polity. It is really more like Ohio or Pennsylvania.
You are right about Ithaca. It is much farther left than NYC. People who would be fringe left in the NYC area are normal in Ithaca.
