Actually, I don't much care what Bush does. The idea that if he didn't attend would be an affront is absurd. There is no tradition or requirement that he do so. He just doesn't have to mouth off about this or that reason for not attending. He can just pass on it. He must be able to find something else to do.

Why cant politics be kept out of the Olympics and the athletes be allowed to do what they do best? It’s like telling Hollywood to shut up and act. Id like to tell the politicians to shut up and let them compete.

The president can do what he wants to now, he’s leaving in January.
He shouldn’t grace China with his presence for their propaganda Olympics.
I know Franklin Roosevelt wouldn’t have treked to Berlin in 1936.
Communist (capitalist) China has done so much starting with forced abortions, jailing followers of various religions, Tibet, etc.
They will end up being a military adversary 20 years or less down the road.
The Chinese will probably give W some money after he leaves office.

Oh no we can’t bite the long time family friends hand who feed us. The Bush Family love for China business and having us bending over backwards for them is sickening. Shoot at and force down a U.S. plane in International spaces? No problem. The only useful thing a Bush ever did in China for the United States was barf.
