"These aren't the buildings that I used to know..."

I tend not to like when people post 'LOL' - rarely does anyone really laugh out loud at a written comment.

But that made me crackup. Out loud.

“People get the government they deserve.” Joseph deMaistre.

And when people become THIS freaking STUPID and inattentive to their freedoms, THIS is the candidate they deserve.

Hurry before some diversity loving (RIGHT!) Obamaniac at YouTube pulls it.

I did hear that yesterday. Just goes to show how shallow their definition of ‘perfect candidate’ really is.

thousands of apartments across Chicago that had been built with local, state, and federal subsidies — including several hundred in Obama's former district — deteriorated so completely that they were no longer habitable.

I am tired of people complaining about "deteriorating" housing - its the subhumans that occupy them that cause them to deteriorate beyond repair in the first place. Then, like locusts, they move on to destroy another once-proud neighborhood.

One factoid which I find quite 'interesting' is that the slumlord and convicted felon Tony Rezko was not merely a huge donor, bundler of donations, and faciliator of Obama's questionable home purchase with adjacent plot of land..... but (I hadn't seen this elsewhere) Rezko was THE seed money for Obama to launch his political career. It was wasn't that Obama started campaigning and then Rezko and others started to donate, it was solely Rezko and one other contributor who were there to fund Obama at the start of his first political campaign. Obama was a Rezko political project from the very start, and then others were drawn in later:

"All the while, Tony Rezko was forging a close friendship with Barack Obama. When Obama opened his campaign for state Senate in 1995, Rezko's companies gave Obama $2,000 on the first day of fund-raising. Save for a $500 contribution from another lawyer, Obama didn't raise another penny for six weeks. Rezko had essentially seeded the start of Obama's political career. As Obama ascended, Rezko became one of his largest fund-raisers. And in 2005, Rezko and his wife helped the Obamas purchase the house where they now live."

So true — I look around at the decent, average to below average middle class home in which I dwell and think of how fast such bozos could trash the place. I have no idea whether those apartment buildings were built properly or not, but the home in which I live could be wrecked in a matter of weeks or months by any low-lifes posing as humans. The plumbing, the walls, the appliances, none of them are invulnerable to abuse and destruction, not by a long shot.

As has been said, the biggest problem with “public housing” proves to be the people who are housed there — think about it, who would willingly live there if they were competent and accomplished enough to live anyplace on their own and without public subsidies, etc.?

Oooops, was that politically incorrect?

Don’t I know it. I lived in Chicago for 14 years. Obama learned dirty politics from some of the best in Chicago. They wrote the book.

The construction of low income housing makes a person a builder. The failure (or refusal) to maintain it makes a person a slumlord. Here are examples from the article:

Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to Obama's presidential campaign and a member of his finance committee. Jarrett is the chief executive of Habitat Co., which managed Grove Parc Plaza from 2001 until this winter and co-managed an even larger subsidized complex in Chicago that was seized by the federal government in 2006, after city inspectors found widespread problems.

Allison Davis, a major fund-raiser for Obama's US Senate campaign and a former lead partner at Obama's former law firm. Davis, a developer, was involved in the creation of Grove Parc and has used government subsidies to rehabilitate more than 1,500 units in Chicago, including a North Side building cited by city inspectors last year after chronic plumbing failures resulted in raw sewage spilling into several apartments.

Antoin "Tony" Rezko, perhaps the most important fund-raiser for Obama's early political campaigns and a friend who helped the Obamas buy a home in 2005. Rezko's company used subsidies to rehabilitate more than 1,000 apartments, mostly in and around Obama's district, then refused to manage the units, leaving the buildings to decay to the point where many no longer were habitable.

Campaign finance records show that six prominent developers - including Jarrett, Davis, and Rezko - collectively contributed more than $175,000 to Obama's campaigns over the last decade and raised hundreds of thousands more from other donors. Rezko alone raised at least $200,000, by Obama's own accounting.

One of those contributors, Cecil Butler, controlled Lawndale Restoration, the largest subsidized complex in Chicago, which was seized by the government in 2006 after city inspectors found more than 1,800 code violations.

That kind of stuff turns landlords into slumlords.

I don’t think that’s accurate. The problem is that the landlord won’t remove the people who behave like that, and decent people refuse to live in such “housing.” They work second jobs and find ways to avoid such places, or they suck it up for a few years and get out as fast as they can. But there’s more to it than that.

A line in the Globe article said Tony Rezko got $87,000,000.00 worth of loans, grants, and tax credits (not deductions) to renovate 1,000 apartments. That’s $87,000.00 per apartment. I’d like to think for a few minutes about what I could do to a two bedroom apartment with $87,000.00.
