Well this is why people call Bush weak. If a President like Lincoln or FDR, Yeah I know they are libs, then they would have the paper shut down, and the editors arrested for treason. This is how these two presidents handled open Treason by Newspapers. Possibly executed.

not at all, but the only way the NYT got this information was by somebody with an axe to grind leaking it to them. That means we have bigger problems than just nosy reporters.

They quote sources who were not in charge during Operation Cannonball (Armatage-Powell) and CIA station chiefs who were removed because of slow response prior!

All would have gripes with the administraion and slanted opinions of what might have happened.

The whole premise is that we failed to get OBL because we dropped the ball and moved to Iraq.

These idots never once describe the furer in Islamabad over Musharaf helping the great satan. The drones were striking targets all over the border area. There were large protests with "Rage boy" ragheads screaming for his head. We had pushed it pretty far and I can understand a hesitance for a large scale operation if intelligence quality were in question.

From what I read the whole story is based on interviews with people not on the ground or even in the loop.

There is a special place in hell for news people who work to undermine America and thats what has happened here.

I would concur with that. Lots of disinfo in this article; could it be a set-up? I do note that the leaker of Plame’s name is also mentioned in this article.

This is why red-state America loathes the NYTimes. Can anyone possibly conceive of this happening during World War II?

Well, no, I can't imagine it happening during WW II - because during WW II, we had a Commander-in-Chief who had some concept of his responsibilities.

Within ten days of Pearl Harbor, with wreckage still smouldering, he imposed full press censorship by Executive order. A short time later, he had a comprehensive war propaganda office up and running, providing stories and guidance to the censored press. His Justice Department threated and in one case actually initiated sedition prosecutions for newsies who were a little too full of themselves.

Most important, he obtained the following language in his authorization of force resolution:

"the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on war against the Imperial Government of Japan; and to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all of the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United states."

The government is being run by incompetents and intellectual pygmies.

What you see with this latest NYT atrocity is not the cause, it is the result.

What you said. Exactly. Pres. Washington would have hung them.
Pres. Bush allowed this to happen over and over.
He will probably allow this to have occurred without penalty... and then complain when it happens again next time.

Exactly. And people think this silly ‘authorization of force’ is the same as a war declaration.

I hope W gives ‘em HELL just like Harry Truman would do!

Well, I don't know that Harry Truman would have done anything except mouth off - but I know what FDR would have done, because he did it.

He censored the press by executive order, he set up and funded a 24/7 war propaganda office, and he prosecuted errant pressies for sedition.

If you are still hoping at this late date that George W. Bush will display some understanding of his job responsibilities, your sense of Christian charity must be much stronger than mine.

In a legal sense, they may be right.

In a moral and political sense, they could not be more wrong.

Well said.

One of the saddest things about the last eight years is that so many folks simply cannot or will not see that George Bush, in his own way and style, has flim-flammed us all just as much and as effectively as did Bill Clinton.

This could warrant a trip to New York to protest the NYT headquarters. Treasonous bastards. And find the leaker(s)in the administration and arrest them for treason!

These liberals hyperventilated about the alleged outing of a CIA agent.

And yet they ran a story either last week or the week before doing their own outing of the CIA agent involved in the Gitmo interrogations......

“I think you got that one there, thats a big fat bloody question there isn’t it? Someone in the KNOW friggin spilled the beans, CIA? PENTAGON? FBI?.... Who is it? I want to know who it was and see them punished to the greatest extent of the law! TREASON.”

My bet’s on Sen. Jay Rockefeller.

“My bet’s on Sen. Jay Rockefeller”

LOL, that guy literally reaks of Marx. But, you are always going to have some dissatisfied leaker, who SHOULD be tried for treason.

The problem, ultimately is the media, who I’m really beginning to see more as the enemy than just a political communication annex of the DNC. It’s got to stop one way or the other.

Seems kinda late for Bush to be getting angry at these leaks. We’ve already had 7 years of them, and he’s done nothing.

1) Here's the kind of "evidence" the story used: "We're just kind of drifting," said Richard Armitage, who as deputy secretary of state from 2001 to 2005 was the administration's point person for Pakistan."

2) The gist of the story is another bash-Bush and bash-Iraq, claiming that the CIA wanted more Predator drones but they were needed for Iraq. What REALLY is at issue is that the Pentagon, including Rumsfeld, thought that "boys with toys" wasn't going to get the job done, and that you needed boots on the ground, but that the "footprint" had to be small.

3) This, to me was the great contribution of Rummy, esp. in Afghanistan, where he realized that a "Soviet-sized force" was simply going to be too cumbersome. So all along, the Bush administration has been fighting the CIA, which wanted nomilitary presence/"boots on the ground" and some in the Pentagon who still clung to the Cold War, mass-army mentality.

4) On top of all this, it is important to understand that Pakistan for now is an ally, and has done some terrific things for us---but that Musharraf is NOT popular and has to constantly be alert for a coup. Ironically, it's probably the reverse of Iran, where the U.S. has good popular support but the hatred of the rulers---in Pak. we have the (tepid) support of Musharraf, but the people hate us.

Now, there is no question that running this story was designed to harm the administration during a campaign; to harm the WoT; and to preempt exactly what we were planning to do---which is why we should go ahead and do it anyway.
