Even my Mother-in-law (Big Lib Democrat) understands that we need to expand domestic oil supplies [drill] and refining capacity.

Even in California they want to drill. They need gas to get to their anti-war protests, nude-ins, gay marches, code-pinko functions. And Arnie needs fuel for his lear jet to shuttle back and forth to work, and to go to enviro conventions to condemn global warming.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if most people who call themselves Democrats would vote to expand drilling. Obama and other Democrats who are against more drilling are going to turn voters off. McCain should milk this for all it is worth.

“Even in California they want to drill.”
And contrary to what the rest of the country thinks, according to this poll, HALF of those in CA surveyed have “always” wanted expansion.
Typical of what has been going on in America for the past 30 years...the Treehugger “tail wagging the dog”...

The Terminator was elected via a recall. He says no to drilling off CA coast much longer and there may be another petition started for his recall.

59% in Cally want to drill. Congress approval rating - 11%. And there’s a big election coming up? (Sorry about all that math...)

If drilling is expanded in water off the coast of California, will the price of gasoline go down at once? Go down eventually? Or not go down? 14% Go Down At Once
14% are not all that bright.

14% are not all that bright. Or, they might be the smart ones.
I'm not going to try to predict commodity futures. But, a large part of the current price of oil is the uncertainty that future supply will be sufficient for future demand.
The certainty of additional supply, even years in the future, will put a dampener on current oil prices. Will they go down? I don't know. They might only increase at a slower rate.
But, I'm not going to say they will not go down right away. My crystal ball isn't that good.

They might only increase at a slower rate. That would be my bet.
Even when thinking about domestic production, we have to consider that the domestic product produced will enter a global market that consumes 84 million barrels per day.
Unfortunately, OPEC if they wished, could cut production as the U.S. introduces oil onto the market or they could introduce additional oil onto the market as as the U.S. begins to E&P the domestic reserves.

If “Most people in CA are on the conservative side”, why is your legislature controlled by Democrats, why are your two US Senators the loony Barbara Boxer (D) and in-the-pocket-of-nutty-environmentalists Diane Feinstein (D) and 34 of your 53 congress-critters are Democrats. None of these are conservatives—aren’t California conservatives voting or are you just sadly mistaken?
