I think my favorite bumper sticker displayed a message to tailgaters.....
The closer you get, the slower I go.I saw one once that made me back off. I had to get real close to read it though.
"If you get any closer, I'll flick a buger on your windshield"

Thanks. I use and understand the line breaks < b> and the line skips < p> but I have no idea what this is or means:
and the almighty (to represent a single space). Oh, and remember to use & for ampersands.

I know the type. West Fairbanks (University territory) has many such hysterically funny feasts for the eye - a bit distracting when you're driving behind one. I always want to get a good laugh out of each bumper sticker.

Over forty years ago I lived in a small Florida cow town. I befriended the state trooper in the county and used to ride with him at night. One of the first things he told me was to watch out for cars with AAA stickers and/or bumper stickers!

That's just the kind of BS I'm talking about. So if you're political affiliation is to a cop's liking, you get a break? They really think a lot of themselves. Look, that was the first bumper sticker I EVER had on my car. I removed that sticker when Clinton was impeached, and haven't placed anything on my bumper since.
I was just sharing a story with other FReepers. In a perfect world, police officers would be completely objective, but this isn't a perfect world.
Police are generally very professional, but they're impressionable, just as we all are. I wasn't trying to influence anyone with my sticker, but on that day, it worked in my favor. If the same scenario happened in some bastion of liberalism--say I was pulled over in Massachusetts or Cal, I might just as easily walked away with a $150 ticket.

“Just like all early 70s VWs (both Bugs and vans) came with the obligatory McGovern 72 sticker.”
No bumper stickers on my car, just the “D” (for Deutchland) origin plate.
BTW, my car is a 69 VW convertible.

I’m not blaming you for it. And hey, everyone likes getting a break on a speeding ticket. I’m just saying that that is precisely why I don’t put stickers of any sort on my car. As for police being professional, your mileage may vary. Some are, some definitely aren’t. The last couple of times I got stopped for speeding, the cops were very polite and I got a break both times. Usually the slightly older cops are the cool ones. The young ones are usually...alas, posting guidelines prevent me from finishing the thought. Anyway, didn’t mean to blame you. I’m glad you got a break.

I have one troop support magnetic ribbon and one small self-made “boycott Berkeley” tag taped into the inside of my rear window where it does not obstruct visibility. I'm entitled (I survived UC and San Jose State in the ‘60s).

Hm. It showed up on my browser. That "blank" space is an ampersand (&) followed by nbsp followed by a semicolon (;). And, as for the &, that's an ampersand (&) followed by amp followed by a semicolon (;).

The bumper sticker that infuriates me is the one that simply says, 01-20-09.Yeah, I have a small cluster of Democrats living up the street from me (in what's otherwise a majority Republican town), and I know this because the cars parked out in front of their houses are always carrying the latest and greatest in liberal fare. One car is sporting "01-20-09" right now, along with "Endless War" and some standard anti-gun crapola. If only they knew how many guns there were less than half a mile away from them - can you say, "apoplexy"?
