There is no “windfall profit”, the oil companies aren’t making enough profit for their investment to justify their staying in business.

Carters “Windfall Profit Tax” which was a 10% wellhead tax and had nothing to do with profit was the straw that broke the camels back and shut dow most of the oil fields in California.

>>>Plus, what’s the point of expanding refineries if you won’t let the companies drill for more oil? We already have the refining capacity for the current world oil production.<<<

Refineries have not kept up with U.S. demand. The U.S. currently imports over a billion barrels of gasoline per day.

“This is just the tip of this iceberg. Just think if Obambi gets in office and we have a democrat Congress.”

Y’know, I’m almost at the stage where I’m hoping for this. I am so sick of Republicans and Conservatives getting blamed for everything. I almost wish for a 100% Democrat-controlled government: the House, the Senate, the Executive, ...

Then, when it all goes to hell, as it surely will, we who are left can say we told you so, that’s what you get when voters listen to idiots like Chris Mathewwwws. Keith Olberman, Tim Russert, etc.

If there’s any country left after the Dems take over, then we can maybe take it back.

My only hope is that they don’t have enough time to do REAL damage.

The consumer gets hosed again literally , the oil company attaches the windfall tax to the cost of the product and the government gets a big chunk , and the consumer is raked over the coals again and pays even more for fuel , gas and electric , groceries and all the rest , and if I were a dimocrat it would all make good sense to me but I was born a conservative . It gives me a headache to think about their windfall tax .

The only jobs that democrats care about are “government” jobs.

The silver lining in all of those Dubai flights would have been if the planes were built by Boeing, but alas, the aircraft that will be used on those flights are being built by Airbus.

I heard that a building TWICE as tall as the Empire State Building is planned for Dubai. That must be one helluva building!

“The Democrats solution to our high gas prices and energy issues is to punish our suppliers?”

Yup. This fits their meme that prices are being fixed and that oil companies are criminal enterprises. Dems get to steal billions that belong to stockholders and move a step further toward nationalization.

Only problem is people will vote them out for high prices.

I sometimes fantasize about that scene from Mars Attacks.

"We still have 2 out of 3 branches of government working for you, that's not bad." LOL.

I told my kids that in the near future they will get to enjoy the same energy situation I did in the 1970’s. Windfall profits taxes, lines for limited gas supply, maybe even odd/even days.

Thanks Congress!

How about a windfall terms-served limit? There should be a limit when a politician is too “successful”, no?

“Will Republicans have the spine to fight this and properly educate the media and the public? We shall see...”

Unfortunately, if the American people cannot understand on that the gov’t makes more profit on a gallon of gasoline than the companies who work for it we deserve what we get.

I don’t have any faith left in the GOP to reverse the trend this election cycle.

We import oil into our refineries. We have more refining capacity than we have oil. And the world has enough refining capacity for the current supply of oil.

If we built another refinery, it would compete for purchasing oil with other refineries, in order to try to make a profit, which would actually drive UP the cost of oil.

And if you somehow found more oil to run them, and the new refinery ran full out while the old refineries still ran, we’d have more gasoline than was demanded.

It would be like a company baking twice as much bread as people wanted to eat in a day.
