Elks or VFW or Skull and Bones. Whatever works.

OK. My concern was with using churches.

Did you manage to read the article yet? To me, it’s all over the place... never lands.

Yes. I read it yesterday when it was posted on another thread.

All over the place, for sure.

Why concern about churches?

I heard Rush tell a caller that McCain and Huckabee joined forces to sink Romney and once two candidates gang up on a third, there is nothing anyone can do to change the course of things. Of course Rush isn’t fond of McCain and can’t stand Huckabee.

Why concern about churches?

I have become a little wary of churches promoting things political. That isn't to say that church buildings shouldn't be used as polling centers for elections, as many of them are, but what raises an eyebrow is with me is when the Church gets into the business of political education, regardless of whether it's liberal or conservative.

I like the idea of after-school civics clubs and what-have-you.

I have had an idea similar to this for a while. What if Rush started a web-based new party. Let's call it the Conservative party for now. We would create a web site, register people just like you would for voter registration. We could “grow” a new party while still belonging to our current party. If it could be grown in size till it was many tens of millions in size, maybe the Republican party would realize how much power we had. If not and we get enough people to register to our new web based only party, we can create a real new party. I think there are a lot of Independents and Democrats that would also like to join an American party.

I clearly see the connection between faith and our Founders.
I don’t see that a church would be in violation of supporting
a political candidate or agenda if it wanted to show patriotic
movies as a way to teach history accurately. At least someone
would be doing the job our education tax dollars should be doing.

We must be brave or the nation will perish.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of a
state religion, nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof...”

The government can violate the first amendment, a church can’t.

True, but I'm not talking about the current interpretation of the First Amendment--the wrongheaded "separation of Church and State"--as much as expressing caution when it comes to the rightful role of the Church.

Call it the division of Church and Politics. ;)
