Actually, if the cost of producing a gallon of gasoline is about 81 cents that means the profit is 19 cents. Taxes on a gallon of gas is about 11 cents so that is a 58 % tax.

BTW: messing with the big boys is not smart - even if you're a big boy. If just one oil company decided to not sell anything for just one day, the national economy would suffer. Threatening to take what's not yours can get you hurt bad.

The worst part of this suggestion is that the Dems, as naive and stupid as they normally are, likely know this windfall tax is not going to fix anything. They are just going to use the ploy as a vote getter. It’ll give the average uninformed consumer someone to focus their anger on and divert the anger away from Dems who have been the real cause of this problem for 35 years by saying no to all ideas to increase our exploration, drilling and refining.
Is he going to impose a windfall profits tax on Microsoft too?
The oil companies should just produce the maximum until the profits tax kicks in and then shut down production completely until the following year. That will teach Obambi.
This is just living proof that Obama will be so busy trying to shuffle his mistakes around, he won’t get much else accomplished. He will be even more inept and incompetent that Carter was.
He will prove to be a Godsend to Conservatives who will start taking the country back in 2010. Of course it will be hard work, and require a lot of local leg work, but it will happen sooner than later.

Oil company stocks, the only thing in my retirement fund that’s earning anything. So much for all the pension funds where it’s their largest holding.
We need a politician/former politician windfall speech tax to limit how much they make by spouting off all the time.
That will trickle down to the consumer in no time at all.
