McGovern, a decorated second world war pilot, was defined by opponents as the candidate of “amnesty, abortion and acid”. Republicans are looking for a similarly pithy formula to define Obama as an antipatriotic appeaser.

You can't compare Obama to McGovern. McGovern had only the college kids and old communists in his corner. Obama has those, plus the media, academia, Hollywood, Baby Boomers, and of course 95% of all black voters. Blacks constitute 12% of the population, and you can bet that 75% of eligible black voters will actually go and vote.

Then there's the fact that most conservatives despise McCain. And then there's Bob Barr...
