Appearing at the Heritage Foundation in Washington last year, I was asked a question about the new sitcom and replied, with the careless insouciance of one who’s unaware he’s being YouTubed around the planet, “Muslim is the new gay.” Alas, this line also appears in the Canadian Islamic Congress’ indictment of me. I tried to explain that I meant it as a compliment, but that only appears to have made things worse.

Islam doesn’t need to laugh at itself because it’s too busy laughing at them.

One of the interesting things about the last 100 odd years is the development of the belief that things will never change again. The worlds boarders have been drawn. The big thoughts have been thought. Now all that's left is a way to find cheap fuel, cheap food, and more enlightened government.

The idea that religion means more to some people than artwork in a museum is alien. The idea that freedom and liberalism can truly perish at the hands of theocracy is unheard of. The idea that entire nations can vanish into history, exterminated, never to return, is quite simply unthinkable.

Europe, by and large, believes that social engineering can help the lions lay down with the lambs. That mankind is somehow a different animal than he was a few hundred years ago. That the fate of Paris could never be that of Constantinople. The possibility that Western Europe may be extinct in our lifetime is laughable.

And the Gods of the Copybook Heading, with terror and slaughter return. We'll see who laughs last.

As it happens, the British Columbia “Human Rights” Tribunal is about to begin hearing a case brought by the Canadian Islamic Congress into my “flagrant Islamophobia”. Among the evidence cited is my review of a Canadian sitcom, “Little Mosque On The Prairie”, which I failed to find sufficiently funny, and as a result am now being prosecuted for. That about sums it up for modern Europe. Their ancestors must be rolling on their graves. If you're not willing to fight for your freedom you don't deserve to be free...and you won't be for long.

What a shame that the long and often glorious history of Western Civilization should end with such a gay whimper!
