Yes, Donoghue is always very decent about accepting apologies. But in the end he was played for a bit of a sucker by the lying leftists, because they took his original complaint, ran with it, and maybe caused McCain some future trouble with Evangelicals for picking Hagee as as a religion adviser and then dropping him under pressure.
It’s ironic, in a way, because McCain attacked Bush in the 2000 campaign for visiting Bob Jones University, and made a big issue out of it.
After seeing that exchange, I would add a thought I had earlier, while reading the article—that Pope Benedict doesn’t really expect thanks, either. Of course he would welcome it, and welcome better relations, but he’s just doing what he thinks is right.
I assume you mean for Obama vs. McCain. I saw that poll. It was conducted by Gallup using a methodology that, as usual, causes inflation of the Democrat percentage. Furthermore, the poll was a couple of months ago, and more ugly stuff about Obama has come out since then.
When November rolls around - assuming it's Obama vs. McCain, look for McCain to get a minimum of 40% of the Jewish vote. It could go considerably higher.
Agreed.
1. It’s a shame that even AIPAC is shunning Hagee. That is sad and they know better.
2. McCain is on the road to at least Reagan’s numbers in the Jewish community. That’s very good.
3. Where is the love for Lieberman? Why hasn’t he been asked to speak at the convention yet?
I hope we see historic numbers for Jews for McCain. But have you seen the names of the leading lights in his campaign? And he knows the importance of the Jewish vote especially in Florida, Penn and NJ. Expect major BS and suck up to come.
On AIPAC and Hagee, is it certain that he was excluded or did they just pick different speakers this year? I did not follow this issue. If they really excluded him they are not only shameful but stupid.
Although I'm not Catholic, I am awed at the process, signaled by the White smoke, that brings to leadership the right man for the time. I am enthralled with Pope Benedict XVI.
Correction: it isn't a Baptist Church, but a United Church of Christ congregation.
Well, as a Catholic I must say that what he has said about the Catholic Church is not much different than what one hears from Liberals. If he is anti-Catholic, he is pretty much in the mainstream of opinion. As to his comments about the Holocaust, what he said is consistent with the Prophets who saw Nebuchanezzar as the instrument of God.
On the day of John Paul’s funeral, he was a man on fire. This meek, modest little professor seemed six feet tall before the throng of people. I think the cardinals got the same message. At the same time, they knew they were getting someone as wise as the serpent, as well as as simple as the dove. He is not one to bang heads, but he gets his way. I pray that he can stay with us for at least another five years.
I think if you read the full context of his quotes, you might think otherwise.
Soundbites and one-liners are the media’s favorite methods of distortion.
This week in Washington, DC, AIPAC is hosting its annual policy conference. It will be an illustrious affair. Heavy-hitters from both American political parties will be in attendance, as will scholars and activists from Israel and the US. But one name is noticeably absent from the three-day program. John Hagee - who in three years has transformed CUFI into a grassroots pro-Israel movement that dwarfs AIPAC in size - is not on the program. And this is a horrible thing.
AIPAC's decision to shun Hagee says something terrible about the state of American Jewish politics today. Quite simply, Hagee has become a victim of liberal American Jewish leaders' decision to place their leftist political preferences above their concern for Israel's survival and for the well-being of American Jewry.
Yes I read “shun” in the article, but wondered if there was anything more than he was omitted. Of course it is awkward now that McCain has denounced him.
Also, David Brog, Exec Director of CUFI (Christians United for Israel, Hagee’s org) will be speaking.
Hagee earned his own history. None gave it to him. His own acts and deeds will be remembered. I stop here and do not record my own reflections on him.
But, Caroline Glick is right and by attempting this smear of a truely good man, Yoffee has only humiliated himself.
Hagee is pursuing the right course, just keep slugging at it.. keep doing as best he can and wait out his detractors. By going to Catholic League and securing their acceptance of his apologies and that the basic points he makes about Catholic anti-semitism are generally accepted as part of the past of the Catholic Church. That these practices and behaviors are part of the past and not something to repeat in the future. Hagee goes after Martin Luther just the same.. recounting history, not Judging other faiths in their message of today except as how they behave.
Caroline Glick is also dead on the money about Pope Benedict, we are blessed with much in that in this time of outright assault bridges are being put into place so that Christians and Jews may recognize that we share much more than we disagree about.
Ultimately, Yoffee will have to answer for his embrace of the Islamists. There are good people who believe this is the way toward peace, but Olmert and his crew have just about proved that this was just a fantasy.
American Jews are blessed to have Rev. Hagee teaching and creating a possible world where Secularism isn't the only answer for Jews to feel safe. Secularism has been a scourge for the Jewish community just the same as it has for the Christian community and the country as a whole.
We need to have a Secular government so that it may be neutral to faith, but our society needs to get back to honoring God, acknowledging faith and patriotism as positive values, and insisting on morality based on the Judeo-Christian value system rather than the creeping moral relativism of the porn culture that is destroying our very way of life.
Amen and right on, BlackElk!
Caroline Glick is one of my favorites!
