SATC is no worse than your everyday soap opera. As far as the supposed gay aspect the series is about four women and their relationships. In the six years it was on, there was only one "experimentation" as a lesbian by one of the characters (with absolutely none of the graphic sex scenes they normally have for hetero relationships), it was short-lived...IIRC, two half hour segments...and ended with that character realizing that wasn't the lifestyle for her.
There are two gay guys, Anthony (10 episodes only) and Stanford (28 episodes), that are the girl's friends, but they don't play a major role, mainly helping them pick out outfits and shoes. They are not even a couple...they actually can't stand each other...and their individual sex lives are NEVER discussed nor displayed as the hetero relationships are. In fact, they are so stereotyped, they are hilarious to watch. There's no more "gayness" in this show than any of the other sitcoms currently on TV.
In addition, the consequences of the actions of the characters in the series were clearly shown as lessons to be learned, not free passes. Through the episodes, especially those that dealt with STD issues, safe sex and getting tested were encouraged. In fact, in one episode the girls severely chide Samantha for not getting tested regularly and she is so terrified she might have an STD that she passes out in the doctor's office. Another episode shows the extreme embarrassment Miranda goes through when she has to contact each one of her past sexual partners about a case of chlamydia.
Abortion was dealt with as something so shameful that Carrie didn't want anyone to know she'd had one in the past and Miranda struggled, but made the right decision against an abortion, had a son and then married the baby's father. An integral part of the story is Charlotte's desire to get pregnant even though she is fertility challenged and the anguish she goes through when she has a miscarriage and how it breaks up her first marriage. Carrie for the most part, is in committed relationships during the whole series, as was Charlotte (the prude). The only true "slut" is Samantha, who was a sex addict that only wants men for sex without the emotional attachments. Which means she has intimacy and trust issues she needs to deal with, that doesn't make her a bad person.
This show is not nearly as bad as everyone presumes it to be and considering most of you readily admit you've never seen it, I don't see how you could possibly form an opinion on it that means squat, even Ms. Hutton.
Nope just another ignorant celeb whose opinions get published because she's famous and hot.
While Hutton admitted she had not seen an episode of the hit US TV series, she went on to claim
It seems as though Lamaze was just banned.
He just got out of the penalty box last week. The guy doesn’t know when to quit.
LOL!
Threads would be *so* dull without you.
Where’s Pissant?
He’s gotta see this.
I hope he doesn’t really get up on the roof and start shooting...
I agree. I don't find her attractive. She's not ugly.
But attractive? --- no way.
Uhm, the writers are not ‘gay’, although they might be, they’re pederasts! (Some of my best friends have been pederasts.)
Lemme guess. Favorite pickup line is, “don’t make me use this knife!”
It's obvious that the four "women" are just homosexual men disguised as females. It's a common phenomenon in much dramatic writing, i.e. Tennessee Williams.
I agree with what see said. Good for her for telling the truth.
Well, wouldn’t we all have to actually ACT in the movie to really be able to judge it’s worth?
Just watching is hardly enough.
I wonder who couldn't fight their own fight and had to hit the abuse button. Sheesh!
Lauren Hutton rides motorcycles and had a real bad accident on one of them a few years ago. I am glad she's better now.
Everytime I see women like the ones in Sex in the City, I am reminded of the website, NOmarriage.com...yikes.
Laz was over the top, I wouldn't waste ammunition on females.
Just one of many.....:)
"Author Camille Paglia said the series was a victory for "the huge wing of us pro-sex feminists" over the "1980s anti-porn, anti-sex wing of feminists".
Part of a post to me by someone who also bases their opinions on what the cartoon character Marge Simpson thinks. Come on guys, can't you do better than that?
I dunno.
I’ve only ever used the abuse button once...and that was on myself.
[I think it involved hot-linking to some photo and I realized I’d violated some TOS of a site or something....it’s been years ago]
You know you’re right, Doug. None of the four women in SATC do anything for me. I’ve been accused of being a cradle-robber because I’ve gone out with women much younger than I am. Lauren Hutton is somewhat older but still looks reeeeeeally good.
Nekkid hineys? Double yay!
