ELDORADO -- The news that hundreds of children could soon return to a compound run by a polygamous group near here brought an unhappy reception from the YFZ Ranch's neighboring community.
Eldorado residents expressed skepticism that evidence of abuse is lacking. Some said they won't be welcoming the sect members -- who are scattered across the state trying to stay with their children -- back to Schleicher County with open arms.
Gabe Rodriguez said no one likes the idea of children being taken from their parents, but he said he is wary of allowing the children to return so soon.
"Let's do the job right," he said. "It's a long, drawn-out process, but we're there. Let's finish the process."
Rodriguez said it's unfortunate that Eldorado is getting attention only because of the raid on the ranch of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He said the Eldorado High School sports teams have done the best ever, with a winning season in every sport.
"It's not fair to our kids," Rodriguez said. "There's more to Eldorado than this."
FYI ping!
10. ESCAPE, by Carolyn Jessop with Laura Palmer. (Broadway, $24.95.) A former member of a fundamentalist polygamous sect describes her forced marriage to a much older man.
No matter what the fLDS supporters do here to try to quash this information, the truth is being told, apparently to a LOT of people. CBS's 48 Hours is airing "Polygamy: A World Apart" Tuesday night at 10 Eastern. ABC's 20/20 ran a segment about this last week. And there's not a thing these people can do about it.

You mean rant, rave, gnash teeth and mount vicious personal attacks on anyone who disagrees with them?
Prosecuting polygamy would also embarrass the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That would get Shurtleff tossed out in the next election. That would really be impractical.
Therefore, in Utah, all of the abused children living in polygamous Mormon cults need to ... Keep Sweet!
Uhhhh the conservative appeals court said more than that...They said
The existence of the FLDS [Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints] belief system as described by the departments witnesses, by itself, does not put children of FLDS parents in physical danger.
Innuendo, rumors, guilt by association, collective guilt and group punishment should not be part of our legal system. Stop the child abuse, but also stop the legal abuse.
BTTT
That has been the M.O. of the lynch mob from day one. You very well know that. Even asking questions would result in an attack.
The disbelievers in this design would have us join them in their disbelief of all of...
...the eye-witness testimony from ex-members & members,
...its long-time historical multi-generational practice,
...its criminal justice track record,
...media reports, and the like surrounding this group.
Some people see design & conclude, "There must be a designer." (For the...
...FLDS such design = false Mormon god speaking thru "revelation" Mormon "prophets";
...world such design = the real God speaking thru the revelation of His world).
Other people don't acknowledge such designs (the naysayers about fLDS behavior; and the evolutionists who refuse to acknowledge such designs of the world).
Criminal investigation of polygamous sect unimpeded by court wrangling
Like someone said yesterday, the Fat Lady hasn't even arrived on stage yet.
And so what does Utah think??????
” . . .brought an unhappy reception from the YFZ Ranch’s neighboring community.”
Not surprised. They probably had plans for the property.
Here’s the problem I have with the ex FLDS women who wrote books. First of all, they were in the FLDS system for years and years, had a bunch of kids, and bought into the lifestyle hook like and sinker. Then one day, their “husband” decides to take yet another “wife” which pisses off the women who went on to write books and they left in a huff, taking their kids with them.
These women who wrote books are royally pissed off and want revenge. The TX CPS used these women who write books as a basis for the abuse charges, etc., stereotyping/labeling all FLDS women, which is horribly unfair and unconstitutional.
The Jeffs guy is in prison which is a good place for him. The women who wrote books are vindicated by that fact. Anything else is vengeance and hearsay.
Furthermore, what is true for the women who wrote books is not necessarily true for every FLDS woman. Each person has individual rights.
“No matter what the fLDS supporters do here to try to quash this information, the truth is being told”
By the way, why are you not capitalizing the F in FUNDAMENTALIST? Perhaps you are trying to make people think these FLDS people are real Mormons? Only the ignorant wouldn’t know better.
I am not a supporter of FLDS. I am a supporter of the U.S. Constitution.
“And so what does Utah think??????”
Utah, and the other states where this problem exists, think the Constitution should be honored and followed. That’s the real difference between Texas and say Utah.
