“So Danica, with the fire that burns inside her...” one of the guys in the booth burbled this. They are working overtime to build some sort of myth around this person. Yecccch.

A long-standing tradition of the Indianapolis 500 is for the victor to drink a bottle of milk immediately after the race. This practice first began in 1936 after Victor Louis Meyer asked for a glass of buttermilk, something his mother had encouraged him to drink on hot days. Afterward it became a ritual as milk companies became sponsors of the race purse and handed a bottle of milk to the winner to promote their product.[4] A sponsorship of currently $10,000 now paid out by the American Dairy Association if the winner swigs the milk in victory lane. Among Indycar drivers, Emerson Fittipaldi is infamous for drinking orange juice instead after his 1993 victory, before he drank the customary milk. Fittipaldi owned citrus farms in Brazil, and wished to promote his industry. He was promptly booed in driver’s introductions the following week by the crowd in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the heart of “America’s Dairyland.”

If PETA had their way, they’d get this tradition banned. They asked Tony George to eliminate it back in 2001 saying it promoted cruelty to cows and racism.

“They” are working overtime on making the Indy 500 mean something again. Its a shame how far it has fallen. After listening to the drivers in post race interviews, I would say they have been taking classes in how to win friends and influence people. They sounded great and great for the sport. From the paint schemes of the cars to Danica stomping her feet. I am all for it but I dunno if America will back Nascar and Indy car.
I have some fond memories of a certain memorial day battle cry.
Gentlemen, start your blenders!

We quit watching at the 100th lap.

Too many commercials, red flags, too much Danica this Danica that....And then Danica commercials...

Yes. TOTAL DANICA OVERLOAD! Enough already. She won her race in Japan, she is a decent, but not great driver. The networks need to give it a rest.

Also, I think the track nees some serious work. The fact that there were about 10 wrecks in turn 1 where there was no contact between cars, just people getting “off the line” is kinda stupid. The race is not near as exciting as it could be because it is really 20 10 lap races instead of one 200 lap race. Fewer accidents is one of the main things. It’s understandable if cars collide and there is a accident, but having a track that is so forgiving that driver after driver hits the same spot on the wall simply because they are a foot off the ideal line is ridiculous.

Danica Patrick leaves pit lane after cooling off following a crash with Ryan Briscoe that took her out of the the 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500, Sunday, May 25, 2008. Right before she went into her garage she said, "A waste of a day. A waste of a month.

They're going to have to rethink how cars enter the pit. A lot of those wrecks were drivers trying to avoid those who had slowed way down to enter the pit. At those speeds the closing time is just way too short.

Looks like a bunch of spoiled brats with expensive toys. Long gone are the days when a guy could bring his own car out and run at Indy. Calling Jim Hurtubise.

I like Danica, but way too much coverage of her.

It’s like Drag Racing with John Force. When he’s beaten they interview him, not the winner.

These drivers are so focused on their own success they do not respect the positions of other drivers.

Kinda like out politics. Win, no matter what.

I’m waiting for the made-for-TV movie of Danica’s would-be fight with Briscoe to come out, with Keira Knightley as Danica, Gary Busey as Briscoe, and Steve (the security guy from Jerry Springer) as the guy who keeps them apart.
