I don’t know if you’re using the Roosevelt quote to praise of damn Bush.

He is in the arena alright, but is he fighting? Is his face marred with dust, sweat and blood??? No, that is a problem a lot of conservatives have with him, he’s not mixing it up, he doesn’t call out the democrats on their lies about him, so they get repeated ad nauseum and you continue to refuse to fight until you wake up one day with his approval ratings. The side effect is, the party is run into the ground because you lose the propaganda war, or shall I say FORFEITED the propaganda war. Wouldn’t want to upset anyone would you George.

Sorry, I have pretty much always kept my mouth shut about Bush, but just seeing the comment that he is the greatest CIC in the past 100 years and possibly ever is just delusional.

We have been worse stewards of the taxpayer’s dollars than the Clinton administration. There was no leadership on that issue.

Think, post 9/11; we were a 'wounded nation'. Think Bush treated our Country like a sick patient; that needed gifts and attention so as to get ourselves back in the game. . .and it was a different game for more than a couple of years.

May be just an excuse for some of the 'give-aways'; but think it was a factor.

And since he served his first two terms before term limits, Moonbeam can potentially run for ANOTHER two terms. Genius. Sheer genius.

No, he didn't say those words. But he did stand in front of a huge banner that made that declaration and didn't say a word about what that banner actually represented. Then, when the left jumped all over the event, the President and/or his staff failed to set the record straight.

Okay. I give President Bush credit for a successful war on terror, a mostly stable economy, and fabulous Supreme Court Justices.

But I still criticize him for expanding the size, scope and cost of government (that is simply undeniable), for contributing to rising food prices around the world (for most of the world corn is a primary source of food...President Bush wants us to put the crap in our gas tanks. Also undeniable.), and for continuing our dependence of foreign oil instead of telling environmentalists to kiss his ass and pressing towards drilling in Alaska and off the coasts of California and Florida.

I'll add more as they occur to me. I'm still an admirer of President Bush for the most part but I have lost a tremendous amount of respect for him.

It was. Perhaps I’m being unfair. I was unflagging with Bush until 2005. Then the doubts began. When I look back I now see the excuses I made as they were - excuses. Perhaps I am being unfair. All I know is we have an election coming up and we have a President, who I actually like and think is a decent man, who has an approval rating somewhere below 35% and above 25% (LOL, I think) and the arrogant dems headed by Obama are able to drag him through the mud and by implication all of us and Americans have no problem with it. It’s very frustrating to be caught in this mix. Of course the number one issue with Americans is not spending but the war and I can see why it is.

I give GW credit for the positives, including judicial nominees (although he has put up a few stinkers as well- thankfully one withdrew her name...), protection of the firearms industry, and cutting taxes.

But he has brought on a great deal of deserved and undeserved criticism- both in his poor judgment on several issues, and his lack of an aggressive PR campaign.

Conducting a war on terror while allowing the borders to basically remain open...bad policy.

Conducting a war on terror while coddling terrorists suvh as Hamas and the Palestinians...bad policy

Failing to publicly push the TRUTH about our energy issues into the spotlight, while failing to actually put a plan together in the first place - bad policy.

Failure to place blame where blame is due instead of being silent when the media attached every disaster and bad news on him...bad philosophy.

Failure to reign in out of control spending...very bad policy.

Some of the perceived problems or perceived failures of the Bush administration could have been averted had he just come out in a Reagan-esque way and openly sold the American people on his thinking. But his silence on many issues combined with inaction doomed many areas of what could have been a truly admirable presidency.

Accurately describing the mistakes Bush has made while in office is called the truth and to pretend that everything he has done, or attempted to do, is perfect and good is called fantasy. Nobody is perfect, even President Bush.

If all of the criticism of Clinton while he was in office was considered aiding the enemy, we could just as easily blame conservatives for the rise of islamic radicalism during the Clinton administration and that would be ridiculous as well.

Of course, he did. In his remarks, he referred to the Abraham Lincoln having accomplished its mission.

Only people who wanted to believe what the left was selling would believe that "Mission Accomplished" had any reference to the war being over.

Bush also gets flack for having issued a statement announcing "the cessation of organized opposition". People don't realize that this is a formal legal requirement under the laws of war. Under the terms of the Geneva Convention, such a statement allows the victor to form a military government.

Of course, the Bush administration never explained that, either.

I proudly voted for Dubya twice, but that doesn’t stop me from feeling disgusted at his willingness to sit there like a punching bag for his entire Presidency. There was just never any fight.

His tax cuts and judge appointments were mostly excellent, and that means a lot, and his guts in finally doing what the Sinkmeister refused to do - - go after the terrrorists - - will make him a hero to history. On the other hand, his decision to ultimately leave the conduct of the war on terror in the hands of lawyers was a disgrace.

Basically, when you think of what COULD HAVE BEEN with a Republican President and healthy majorities in Congress, all you can do now is shake your head.

This ‘Letter of Apology’ was written by Lieutenant General Chuck Pitman, US Marine Corps, Retired:

For good and ill, the Iraqi prisoner abuse mess will remain an issue. On the one hand, right thinking Americans will abhor the stupidity of the actions while on the other hand, political glee will take control and fashion this minor event into some modern day massacre.

I humbly offer my opinion here:
I am sorry that the last seven times we Americans took up arms and sacrificed the blood of our youth; it was in the defense of Muslims ( Bosnia , Kosovo, Gulf War 1, Kuwait , etc.)

I am sorry that no such call for an apology upon the extremists came after 9/11.

I am sorry that all of the murderers on 9/11 were Islamic Arabs.

I am sorry that most Arabs and Muslims have to live in squalor under savage dictatorships.

I am sorry that their leaders squander their wealth.

I am sorry that their governments breed hate for the US in their religious schools, mosques, and government-controlled media.

I am sorry that Yasser Arafat was kicked out of every Arab country and high-jacked the Palestinian ‘cause.’

I am sorry that no other Arab country will take in or offer more than a token amount of financial help to those same Palestinians.

I am sorry that the U. S. A. has to step in and be the biggest financial supporter of poverty stricken Arabs while the insanely wealthy Arabs blame the USA for all their problems.

I am sorry that our own left wing, our media, and our own brainwashed liberal masses do not understand any of this (from the misleading vocal elements of our society like radical liberal professors, CNN and the NY TIMES).

I am sorry the United Nations scammed the poor people of Iraq out of the ‘food for oil’ money so they could get rich while the common folk suffered.

I am sorry that some Arab governments pay the families of homicide bombers upon their death

I am sorry that those same bombers are brainwashed thinking they will receive 72 virgins in ‘paradise.’

I am sorry that the homicide bombers think pregnant women, babies, children, the elderly and other noncombatant civilians are legitimate targets.

I am sorry that our troops die to free more Arabs from the gang rape rooms and the filling of mass graves of dissidents of their own making.

I am sorry that Muslim extremists have killed more Arabs than any other group.

I am sorry that foreign trained terrorists are trying to seize control of Iraq and return it to a terrorist state.

I am sorry we don’t drop a few dozen Daisy cutters on Fallujah.

I am sorry every time terrorists hide they find a convenient ‘Holy Site.’

I am sorry they didn’t apologize for driving a jet into the World Trade Center that collapsed and severely damaged Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church — one of our Holy Sites.

I am sorry they didn’t apologize for flight 93 and 175, the USS Cole, the embassy bombings, the murders and beheadings of Nick Berg and Daniel Pearl, etc....etc!

I am sorry Michael Moore is American; he could feed a medium sized village in Africa .

America will get past this latest absurdity. We will punish those responsible because that is what we do.

I am sorry the Barack Hussein Obama may be elected president of the United States when he doesn’t have a clue on how to be a strong Commander-in-chief in a world filled with Muslim extremists who will do whatever it needs to do to destroy the lives of civilized people while killing innocent men, women and children in order to bring a change that is beneficial to all Islamic terrorists worldwide.

I am sorry that voters on the liberal left don’t understand the frightening changes that are taking place in the Muslim world and what these changes will do to this world in which we live.

I am sorry that the Democratic Party has been high-jacked by Socialists and Communists right under the very noses of those who take pride in calling themselves democrats.

We hang out our dirty laundry for the entire world to see. We move on. That’s one of the reasons we are hated so much. We don’t hide this stuff like all those Arab countries that are now demanding an apology.

Deep down inside, when most Americans saw this reported in the news, we were like — so what? We lost hundreds and made fun of a few prisoners. Sure, it was wrong, sure, it dramatically hurts our cause, but until captured we were trying to kill these same prisoners. Now we’re supposed to wring our hands because a few were humiliated?

Our compassion is tempered with the vivid memories of our own people killed, mutilated and burnt amongst a joyous crowd of celebrating Fallujahans.

If you want an apology from this American, you’re going to have a long wait! You have a better chance of finding those seventy-two virgins.

This Lt. General finally gets to what I have maintained for many years!

Lyndee Englund, and Karpinski, and crowd, at Abu Graib, are so responsible for prolonging this Iraq war, even more than the Shites and Sunnis are in blowing up each others mosques, sucking us into the further deaths for our brave troops.

Think of the Islamic reaction to cartoons of their revered Mohammad with a cartoon bomb in his turban; Then think of actual photos of little Lyndee prancing around with a cigarette in her mouth, leashed to a Muslim on his knees, or a nude pyramid of muslims, as published in the New York Times.

Bush’s banner, Mission Accomplished, was stupid and too early; finding Saddam in his spider hole could have ended this war, but then little Lyndee pranced, and the muslim world went bullshit!

Unfortunately, Bush is not able to coherently state his Iraq case, and is not willing to focus Katrina blame on schoolbus Nagin and BooHoo Blanco, so he takes all the hits.

It’s a shame that he is unable to shed responsibility for actions of others while he is in charge. (Even Clinton got Reno to take the hit for Waco, even though she had nothing to do with it.)

Let’s see what Barak or Hillary, or maybe even McCain, can do to stomp out the cockroach nest in the middle east; that little Lyndee, Karpinski, Achminidijab, Al Sadr, Al Quida have been fomenting over the past decade, or century.

Tall order, too bad we haven’t been able to find a new real leader amongst all the American want-a-bees!

When President Bush took office gas was $1.45 a gal. By Dec., 2006, despite 9/11, the largest natural disaster to hit the US-Hurricane Katrina and 2 wars gas was $2.38, up $.93, a big jump for sure but not a gut buster.

Since the dems won Congress in Nov. 2006 it has risen $1.60 a gal. to today's $3.89.

President George W. Bush is at 30% public approval because of so called conservatives on these forums.

There are few leaders in the world despised more than this man. There are few human beings on the earth despised more than this man.

The conservative detractors deserve John McCain. They also deserve a hyper uber liberal Senate and a hyper liberal House. They are reaping what they have sown with their scorn for this great man.

I hold know grudge to those who disagree with President Bush on an issue such as immigration but the thankless leadership he has provided is extraordinary when placed in the context of contempt. The nation is not simply ungrateful. They HATE this man and it extends as equally from the foul mouths of Pat Buchannan to Keith Olbermann.

President Bush is not as popular as other foreign leaders because he leads a free nation that does not jail or kill its opponents. You have been free to assail and make false statements about his good character because you are free.

The 70% of Americans who despise this man are not worthy of the freedom they enjoy.

The ship, Abraham Lincoln, was returning from the longest deployment since WW2, having been on its way once before before turning around for a longer time away from home. It was the ship that put up the banner. President Bush in his speech said “Major combat operations are over,” referring to the end of bomber flights, etc. He also spoke at length about the fact that the war was not over and would be a long one. People who keep referring the “mission accomplished” as Bush’s words are misinformed, the media on purpose, others from lack of knowledge. Please go read his speech.
