Doesn't matter ~ the history is entirely too convoluted. It's OK to be insulted by some puke who says he's a "freethinker".

The word is much like "La Raza" ~ best abandoned for the sake of comity.

I don’t think “freethinker” is nearly as pretentious as the recent use of “bright” to describe those with a naturalist point of view. That being said, I simply describe myself as either an agnostic or an atheist...depending upon how optimistic I’m feeling at that moment :-)
