I have seen police photos of a guy who was killed in the same way. They were gruesome.

Then in my neighborhood last week, someone stole a storm drain cover. We were out giving the dog a walk and I walked right by it without looking down at it. My 6-year old son said “Dad look”, and I turned around and chills went down my spine. There was my Son inches from a 7-8 foot drop into what must of been 2 or 3 feet of rushing water in the blackness of the hole. It amazes me the stupid things people will do for a few bucks.

What is even more funny is many of these poles do not have copper, just high tensle copper coated steel wire.

So true. Did somebody just say, "skin effect"?

I don’t think the economy is to the point of having to steal it from live infrastructure. He should have stuck to construction sites and abandoned buildings.

In Atlanta, we’ve been having problems with people stealing manhole covers for scrap metal.

Welcome to the Third World.

Will the sh**brained idiot’s family now sue Savanna for not posting enough warnings that the lines he was ripping off were live and could kill him; maybe for not having a very high fence around the lines?

He is the only one who inflicted the penalty on himself. The laws of physics can be harsh; gravity, electrical charge, objects in motion (bullets, speeding cars) etc. Not quite as stupid as the guy in the other thread who was scratching his back with a loaded pistol but real close.

A day or two ago in Texas, a 15 year old girl with a hardship driver's license drove an SUV around crossing gates into the path of an Amtrak train rolling close to 60 mph. Fatal. No word whether she was talking on a cell phone though.

We speculated that it might take 15 seconds to blunder up onto and across tracks in such a situation, taking advantage of the SUV's off-road capability, while the train was covering a quarter of a mile. Not rocket science at all.

There have been reports recently of a couple of houses exploding from natural gas leaks because someone broke in and stole the copper pipes. One house explosion was so strong it took 3 or 4 houses with it and damaged many others in the surrounding neighborhood. The home had been empty for about a year because the owner is in a nursing home.

Please tell me it wasn’t Aunt Sarah’s (name changed to protect the innocent) house.

Say, whatever happened to her purloined cat?

Let’s fix the first line of this story; “Savannah police say a bum was killed trying to steal copper wire”...
