Gas is $4.00 a gallon, and the Democrats are filibustering against drilling for oil. The Democrats are wholly controlled by environmental groups that lobby in Washington. When the environmentalists get the kick in the tail they’ve earned, we’ll have more energy.

The upside is that this is a Dem Congress. Another negative enhancement to their resume. We need to get them to defeat some more commonsense legislation prior to November.

From the Pelosi news conference of 05-07-08:

‘Drilling is the failed energy policy of yesterday that has brought us
record gas prices today’.

Drill the Bakken. It's not offshore, it's not in Alaska, and it's got more oil than either. It just needs a bigger pipeline; as it's being developed, let the oil companies put their profits into advanced drilling technology to get more oil out of the Bakken.

Oh yeah, I'm Cogitator: meanwhile, develop carbon sequestration and atmospheric CO2 extraction technologies.

The problem is that the American people don’t understand economics and oil and never will.

Democrats don’t care how high the price of gas goes. They want people to stop buying it. The rich will be the only ones on the road if they have their way.
Dingell in Michigan recently proposed a .50 increase on each gallon. Why would he do that?? For exactly that reason.
THEY DO NOT CARE. ITS WHAT LIBERALS WANT.

In related news...

Iran report pushes oil to new record, gas jumps above $3.73

Oil prices shot to a new record near $127 a barrel Tuesday on concerns that Iran may consider cutting crude oil production. Gas prices, meanwhile, rose to a new record over $3.73 a gallon Tuesday, and their advance shows little sign of slowing with Memorial Day weekend.

Drill domestically? Now why on Earth would we want to do that?

It’s only going to get worse as more of the stupid population that votes, votes more liberals into government.

Needed more PR to generate pressure from constituents.

Didn’t even know this was up for a vote.

Yet another example of the complete disconnect between politicians and reality, as well as the inability of the Republican leadership to get anything done. I heard an economist say that just the threat of us drilling our own oil would be enough for OPEC to increase the supply and drop the price. That's their worst nightmare.

We need a Levin Surge to let these idiots know how we feel. After McCain's stupid green speech yesterday the Dems know they don't have to give an inch. Even McCain won't increase domestic drilling. He told O'Reilly he won't allow new drilling anywhere. AAAUUUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Given that neither Democrats or Republicans have effectively addressed our energy independence since the 1973 oil embargo, why don't we give more attention to private developments in biofuel production?

First, the bad news about ethanol. Ethanol fires are evidently harder to control than gasoline fires.

Ethanol fires hard to control 1
Ethanol fires hard to control 2
Hopefully, ways will be developed to make controlling ethanol fires easier.

On the brighter side concerning ethanol, there's now evidence that people might get as much, or more, bang per buck for their gas dollars with gas / ethanol mixtures.

Gas-competitive gas / ethanol mixtures
Also, I was surprised by the introduction of a machine for making home-made ethanol.
EFuel100
In stark contrast to the 1700 gallons of water required to make one gallon of corn-based ethanol as indicated by the OP, the EFuel100 uses only 170 gallons of water to produce 35 gallons of ethanol In other words, the EFuel100 uses less than 1% as much water as corn ethanol, under five gallons, to produce one gallon of ethanol (corrections welcome).

But watch out for fines for violating biofuel regulations.

Fines for violating biofuel regulations
Finally, progress is being made in the development of other non-corn ethanol production technologies as well.
Non-corn ethanol

We can only hope that McCain selects a real conservative as his VP. After all McCain is getting real old and his likelihood of not making it through a full term, much less a second, is pretty good. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t wish him dead, just that when he does pass he does not screw his party one last time by leaving another RHINO to be president.

The price of gas does not effect these guys. I don’t think anything will happen until about ten or so million of us march on Washington and shut it down. If they are not going to pass anything to help out the country than it would be better to let them do nothing at all.
