the third is John Cornyn, famous for his staunch opposition on the Immigration Bill Committee to John McLame’s efforts to insitutionalize Amnesty!

He initially supported the bill. He just decided to listen to the outcry sooner than everyone else. I'll give him credit for listening to conservatives more than the other two. However, he certainly isn't a conservative "leader" like Sessions, DeMint or Coburn.

I hope you are right. Even fairly late in the 2002 campaign Cornyn was not that far ahead. The race was considered quite competitive and the Dem was well funded, as I recall. So I think in the end Cornyn will win, even if the margin is not overwhelming.

One of Cornyn’s problems is that he is not recognized much within TX. I can think of few other senators less well-known in his own state. I thought he would lose in 2002 though.

Interesting. He seems rather low key. More statesman like perhaps, and not enough politician in him. I think he might make a good candidate for president but I don’t think the GOP wanted another Texan this time. Maybe in ‘12.

Is there a typo in there somewhere? Article says Gov Perry’s approval rating is 34%. But President Bush “does not do as well” with 39% saying he is doing a good or excellent job. Sounds like Bush is more popular than Perry, or those numbers are not right.

Too bad GWB can only get 39% in TX. If he is rated that low there then it is probably a lot worse in the rest of the country. Pretty sad, since things are not as bad as people think. And while we disagree with him on some issues, he is a man of good character. Contrast him to his predecessor on that score.

I continue to be highly offended that President Bush polls so low in Texas and nationally.

His foreign policy in Central and South America has been horrific. Throw in open borders, and you should be able to see why the numbers dropped. Add in the collapse of the US dollar, China trade policies, and the lack of a coherent energy policy, and I'd say his numbers are about where they belong.

Since you mentioned Iraq, I'll point out that many of the more recent problems stem from going in with the wrong rules of engagement and inadequate use of force on the front end. Failure to secure Iraqi borders hasn't helped.

The United States was involved in the military strike against Ecuador and Venezuela in defense of Columbia. That was a solid strategy. The US was instrumental in the referendum defeat of Hugo Chavez’s effort to expand his power.

The “collapse” of the US dollar increases exports and has the potential to stop conservative whiners and backstabbers from complaining so much about the “trade deficit” among other useful faux consevative fictions.

Since coming to office the Bush administration has worked to remove Saudi Arabia as our leading supplier of crude oil. That position is now occupied by two other nations closer in relationship— Canada and Mexico. We also have increased supplies from Africa.

Iraq has been a catastrophic success. Americans feel no need to rally around their leader since their buidlings seems to be blowing up so much less than on September 11 which has been utterly and completely forgotten by all but 30 percent of Americans.

Good leaders like Putin and Chavez have awesome poll numbers far above President Bush’s. This leads me to believe that it might be good to send thousands of dissenting Americans to Gitmo and see if public attitudes tick upwards a bit. Or maybe we could forcibly deport our anti immigration crowd to Mexico to convey how little we care about the immigration issue.

Americans have it pretty hard right now living through economic hard times that surpass the Great depression, but I still believe that they can do better to support a President who has far more fortitude, patience, intelligence, and grace than they do.

We need to do what we can to put a stop to Noreiga, he is Barbara Boxer's hand picked golden boy and he has been playing a very dirty campaign with false accusations against Cornyn. He is also attempting to split the Republican vote against Cornyn with his accusations.
