remember that guy who turned conservative, and they published his story? this them making up for that.

Are you referring David Mamet?

We had always assumed that the playwright David Mamet was, as he described himself recently, “a brain-dead liberal.” But, lo! it is the season of Easter, miracles are abroad, and Mamet, in the pages of The Village Voice no less, revealed himself to have undergone a political metanoia.

The NY Daily News and Reason had no reason to tell basically the same story other than they believe it to be true.

NYCLU: New York is now world's 'marijuana arrest capital'

To Catch a Leaf

IMHO, Nat Hentoff is one the few on the left who calls it as he sees it. When he writes about abortion he usually describes it as an act of barbarism.

Make hallucinogenic drugs legal? Let’s not wimp out just because we haven’t solved the problem yet.

Making unrighteousness “legal” doesn’t reduce it.

Swift sure punishment of the wholesalers would go a long way.

The problem is human nature. It's not unlike the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. It's usually liberals who think that human nature can be changed. The war on drugs will last longer than the war on terror.

Making unrighteousness “legal” doesn’t reduce it.

It eliminates the exorbitant profits and the corruption because it is illegal.

Swift sure punishment of the wholesalers would go a long way.

It's only swift and sure in police states where people have no liberty. If God made it, make it legal, tax and regulate it like alcohol. Make synthetic drugs strictly controlled or illegal. This war on drugs is killing our liberties and funding our enemies from Afghanistan to Latin America.

God referred to such as the equivalent of witchcraft, which often overtly accompanies its use.

I trust you don’t mistake the amoral Libertine (much like Liberals!) with the principled Libertarian.

Libertarianism works where the people have a strong internal moral compass. Elsewhere it results in chaos, anarchy and licentiousness.
