There's a better solution to our energy problems than ethanol. It's called nuclear energy.

“There may be a 2,000,000:1 ratio of energy release, but it’s about two million times easier to mine & burn coal than mine & refine & split uranium.”

Maybe. Have any links to back that 2 million to 1 ratio? I haven’t found any clear data on which, when you factor in all the costs associated with bringing either coal powered electricity or nuclear powered electricity to market, which one is cheaper.

The 2M:1 comment was just reflecting the prior 2M:1 comment; the point was that the ballpark figures generally balance out. No I don’t know what the actual ratio is, but I do know that I can dig usable coal with a cheap shovel, while usable uranium will take mining tons of ore, multiple phases of refinement, and ultimately require very precise & expensive & hazardous steps to produce - so roughly speaking, I expect extracting a pound of coal will take $1 of tools while extracting a pound of uranium will take $2M of tools.

So we are in agreement with my original post which is that coal and nuke are roughly the same in terms of cost of electricity produced? That uranium costs more in the mining and refining stage, while it costs way less(pound for pound) at the output stage. I mean until either of us finds some hard data out there in the ether. It appears that when communities that desire to build a new power plant, they view coal power and nuclear power as both being economicly feasible. Both carry negative political baggage.

Sure.
Do the same for the Oil boys, and we can all play fair. Of course that won’t happen.

Coal isn't subsidized. It is under systematic attack by green luddites. Walmart isn't subsidized. It is under systematic attack by red luddites. Furniture isn't subsidized. Nobody could possibly care. Cardboard boxes aren't subsidized. See previous. The statement is transparently false. If farmers "organize" as you put it, they will be prosecuted and should be. I am not your tax slave, that my own work should be milked to pay your favorite constituency rents they never earned in services to me or mine. Look around you and see how many people are utter thieves. Or in a mirror.

I'll settle for burning greens instead of ethanol. And I don't mean plants.

“You can suggest this as a start:

H.R.5437 Title: To promote alternative and renewable fuels, domestic energy production, conservation, and efficiency, to increase American energy independence, and for other purposes.”

Thank you, but I would rather that the politicians allow us to drill throughout our country, and build more refineries.

We HAVE conserved, but prices continue to increase.

Using ethanol is not good for vehicles, I have heard, plus it causes food prices to increase.

There is not an industry in the country that hasn’t had subsidies applied. The local Walmart that went in a town of 12,000 had the ground donated by the city and was given property tax breaks for several years. Businesses across the country are treated likewise to attract them to towns and cities. You obviously don’t have a clue.

Blaming the US for food riots is about as low as any American can go (this excludes sniveling liberals and the blame America crowd) and I never expected to see such a post on this site. I probably pay more taxes than your annual income.

The ethanol subsidies have either run out or will soon.

Not true.

And more continues to be proposed:

If you pay more taxes than my annual income, all the more reason the government shouldn't be giving you handouts like a common beggar. All you are, is a parasite.

If my paying more taxes than you have income, what does that make you since you are making little or no contribution? Do you live in a 3rd world country? What business are you in? What is your reason for not addressing the tax subsidized industries outside of farming? Are you not getting enough to eat or do you just want free food and energy?

Your liberal fashion of name-calling is often not appropriate to this board.
