This has become a big shi*storm for the politicians in Grayslake. This will come back to haunt this mayor. He took it upon himself ..at 4:41pm on the Fri. prior to the event,to cancel the permit, offering no recourse to the parties involved.(including Vince Neil) I will include links to the parties effected...they are plenty pissed!!

The buisness community will hate this mayor for this! Large bike shows tend to bring in a lot of money. The average income for a Harley rider these days is in the $80K+ range and they like to eat, sleep in nice motels, and generally have a good time for the weekend. My hubby and I own 3. :)

Just one of the pissed off citizens.....

As a Law Enforcement Officer of 25 years, it never ceases to amaze me the stoic attitudes of some of my fellow officers. I have been riding a motorcycle since I was 12 years old, and do not see myself ceasing anytime in the near future.

As a member of a Law Enforcement only Motorcycle club, I was planning to attend with at least 35 of my friends, (all Law Enforcement Officers), the iron horse roundup, I am sure the timing was intentional and had been many months in the planning to do it this way. Unfortunately I feel this is another incident of the Majority bowing to the whim of a vocal minority, (much like the smoking ban in bars, I mean really there are times when everyone is outside and the bar is nearly empty), I am sure there are some residents of Grayslake that are a little tight assed and decided that this was not the type of event they wanted taking place in their suburb. There have been many such incidents of this type of discrimination, many newer subdivisions have a “NO MOTORCYCLE” Clause in their association guidelines, I have found the best people to call in such an event would be the A.M.A., (American Motorcyclist Association). Unfortunately there is not time enough to save the event through this method, but they have attorneys who have dealt with this type of stonewalling technique.

One suggestion, that may be able to save the event, Is galt Airport out of the question as a last minute location? it is big enough I am sure, but I am just Spitballing here.

Just to give youo an idea of how many more Law Enforcement officers might have shown up, I ride with one club but have good friends in many other Law Enforcement clubs, here is the short list of just a few of those clubs off the top of my head:

Centurions
American Lawmen
Blue Knights
American Knights
Wild Pigs
Gunslingers
Renegade Pigs
L.E.R.C. (Law Enforcement Riders Club)

Given the fact that I have at least ten friends in each of thses clubs that I email on a regular basis, all of them had notice of this event and unless working I am sure they would have been there, it is almost certain that we will make it known of our displeasure with this untimely decision.

Thanks

I liked this comment:

The city officials can't call you to defend their position, but they have the time to make the press release into a pdf file & post the release on the village's website before close of business. What a bunch of COWARDS!!!

By making the announcement only twenty minutes before close of business on a the Friday before the event is indeed an act of extreme cowardice. I really feel bad for all the businesses that are going to take a hit, particularly the lady with the start-up business who left a comment at the link.

No one reads threads when there’s no date or location. Some posters assume that everyone on the planet knows where they live.

What would happen if everyone showed up anyway? I would like to see the mayor throw 20,000 riders in jail for not breaking the law.

Last night I was at an event in San Jose for the Vespa scooter community.

In my town there were a couple of other events....Sharks game and the impending ‘Sicko de Mayo’ celebration......

The cops had the ENTIRE down town blocked off 2 hours after the game(after midnight) and as I tried to leave to go home I was forced to drive 8 miles out of my way instead of the 13 blocks to my house......

What in the hell gives these sadists the right to park on sidewalks, park in the wrong direction, park in red zones, block off dozens of streets, heard law abiding folks away from their homes all in the name of ‘command presence’....I hope they all rot....really.

a 5 minute ride home became a 30 minute stress filled journey all to please the facist brown shirts the city pays to ruin lives and fine speeders.

Heros my ass....

The cop in my town suk....

Great attitude coming from someone who considers himself a Conservative. Or maybe you had too much to drink this evening?

"No one reads threads when there’s no date or location."

The title was enough to make some open and read the post.

Some would ignore a post titled "kit car convention cancelled" even if they did cite the venue.

I expect that others would bypass "Sewing machine collectors protest restriction on needles",

or, "Points set needed for 305 Hawk".

Guess it all depends.....

My wife and I happened to be visiting Laughlin, NV last week when a huge biker convention rolled into town. The "River Run" was as big as computer conventions used to be when America still had jobs. Booths for bike parts, accessories and fashion gear stretched for miles.

There seemed to be two distinct demographics in attendance: the sixty-something gray ponytail set, and a new generation of slick young guys wearing race-team logo shirts. I can't imagine why any town would reject this sort of business.

It's unfortunate that you fail to understand the relationship.

Cheers!

We used to have a really great gun show at that same fair-grounds for close to 20 years. In 2001 the mayor of Grayslake put pressure on the fair grounds administrators to cancel the contract for the show. Used the same “safety” argument. Funny thing is the show was organized and run by a full time police lieutenant from a near by community.
