You'd only have to exterminate four species of sharks and there'd never be another serious attack on a human. There would still be 296 species of the fricking things for "scientists" to study.

In the case of whites, the idea is you go out in a 25" boat with a length of nylon rope, a big hook, a rubber seal and one of those lever-action 45/70 Marlin rifles, and you aim for the gills since sharks don't really have enough of a brain to shoot at. You'd only have to kill three or four of them, the rest would all kill eachother.
