“That’s true. Blacks don’t like water or swimming. It’s cultural.”
Every black guy in my company in Navy boot camp had to learn to swim in boot camp. As you said, it’s not a lack of ability or anything, it’s just a cultural thing.
“The non-swimming rate for Hispanic children was almost as high 56 percent”
Very puzzling since most of their parents swam the Rio Grande.
You are absolutely correct and thanks for saying what I was thinking. From the looks of the threads, the ‘chickens and roost’ thing might soon replace the worn-out Bush’s fault. I’m sick of that one already.
If you want black kids to learn to swim start offering big bucks for swimming competitions. Make it into a sport where you can make a living and watch how fast the interest rises. How many black kids are into badminton, shuffleboard, or curling?
Has anyone ever thought they don’t swim simply because they have no interest in swimming?
I was in the navy and took water survivor courses with black guys.
White guys can take a big breath lean back and float, on the other hand as described by one of my friends, “brothers sink”.
Classic case of hurting people by not wanting them to feel “discriminated against”. Sure seems that most of the time we are sliding backwards as a society, not moving forward.
Teaching a child how to swim is very important. Sure, it’s tough, more so if the child is afraid of water.
I think one would be negligent NOT to teach their child how to swim. It’s an important survival skill as one never knows where life will take them.
Most schools having swimming pools and offer Red Cross lessons for a minimal fee. We taught our son how to swim ourselves, then refined his skills through the RC training.
It helps to have a kid who takes like a fish to water. Swimming is one of our son’s greatest joys.
They could’ve surveyed me over 20 years ago. Very few of the blacks in my boot camp company could swim - I’m talking 10-20% here. I never bothered to learn to swim when I was living in the inner city either - you don’t need to swim to play in the city pool or under a fire hydrant. I didn’t learn to swim until I moved out of the city. It couldn’t have been whitey’s fault since I’m whitey.
Rev. Wright talked about the “right brain” thing in Afro-Americans, so maybe that’s the problem. They can swim but only in circles.
I'm always amused when the clueless attempt an insult.
58% Say Obama Denounced Wright for Political Convenience, not Outrage
and now this one. Is it because there is a Black candidate running this year?
New study: 58 percent of black children can't swim
It’s a black thing. You white folk just don’t understand.
they dont have the bouyancy - Al Campanis”
Who you calling buoyant?
This swim thing is a private initiative. So, buy a clue: if you want to help these other Less-Abled Americans to learn skills, start a "White Guys Jump: Yes We Can Academy," or a "Tough Enough to Dance X-treme Competitive Ballroom Training Camp." :o)
Incidentally, I understand the Talmud says that among a father's duties to his sons are to (1) Teach them a trade (2) Find them suitable wives and (3) Teach them to swim.
In America it should be all inclusive ie; for all children who need to be taught how to swim regardless of race.
I am sick of this pandering to some blacks, America is composed of many races, not just black.
Ain’t nobody picked my cotton lately.
Just Words,
