I was at Ft. Bragg with the 82nd Airborne back in the mid to late 1970’s. Our little unit was housed in the old World War II wooden barracks (across the street from the Ft. Bragg stockade which Delta Force took over when I was there.)

The barracks were not that great and I ended up moving off post into a regular home shared with several GI friends.

It's disgusting that we're still treating soldiers to this kind of crappy housing from the 1950’s.

It's already happening. Blame it on the NCO's.

The NCO's responsible for their troops wellbeing were deployed with them in Iraq for gosh sakes.

That the buck gets passed is symptomatic of the duds that get left behind when the unit deploys. We used to call them REMFs or Garritroopers.

Combat soldiers deserve to be treated as the professionals they are. Of course, they should be held to a high standard of conduct and cleanliness, but to be stuck in substandard housing is unacceptable.
