Planetwide food production is twice what is consumed. The problem is distribution, as always.

I don’t think food has gone up 46%?
From the WSJ 4/25/08:
And some prices are rising even more quickly. The latest data show cereal prices rising by more than 8% a year. Both flour and rice are up more than 13%. Milk, cheese, bananas and even peanut butter: They’re all up by more than 10%. Eggs have rocketed up 30% in a year. Ground beef prices are up 4.8% and chicken by 5.4%.

As long as we can get McChickens and Double Cheeseburgers for $1, our family will not starve.

We’re going to hear a lot about how it takes 8 pounds of grain to produce a pound of beef.
We’re not going to hear much about the fact that a pound of beef has at least 4 times as much protein as a pound of grain. Nor will we hear about the pounds of beef produced on range land, which is unsuitable for growing crops.
To: RushingWater
We don’t eat just one food, so add them together and Wallah! You will have at least 40%

Food prices rose from 1971 to 1975, 1977 to 1980, and 2007 on.
All periods of decrease in the value of the dollar.

There is only one sure answer to a food crisis - more subsidies for farmers.

One of the biggest ingredients in food production is oil and it's byproducts (fertilizers etc )... and oil's gone from $30 to $112...

Food is a weapon. If one can’t be controlled by using the environment, then by golly, we will control you with food.

The way the Double Cheeseburger has gotten smaller over the past few years
your family just might starve. ;-)

Boca isn’t food — it isn’t even what food eats.

Perhaps not, but the trans fat will get you.
