I’ve seen a lot more Wall Streeters getting rich and rust belters getting poor than the caption on your cartoon would suggest.

actually, gold fell but the dollar did not strenghten.

Curiously, the dollar has somehow disconnected from Gold since Gold came close to $1000. Despite the more than 10% decline in gold, the dollar has barely inched upward. The primary reason is probably the fact that the dollar is not backed by any gold anymore.

And it sure as hell isn’t backed by any oil or we would all be rich as hell!!

I believe the point was that whenever your economy resembles a lottery, there will be some few individuals who grow wealthy, while the general society descends further and further into poverty. The "poverty" and "wealth" of the cartoon caption refer to societies, not to individuals who profit from rampant speculation.

Ever notice that gold always creeps up $400, but always "plunges" $100?

There is a mortal symbiosis between socialism and paper money...

Heh, when I first saw that bubble in the middle with “RINGS” in it, I read “RINOS.”
