Irrespective of a permit, people have a right to protect themselves. The question is, under the law, how does one exercise this separate right without a permit?

Which is why I can't understand the position of most police forces on citizens carrying legally.

You'd think they'd rather show, mop up and move on than have to justify a shoot, fill out endless reports, turn in their weapon, be assigned to a desk, face a board of review, face the media, face the family who is filing a civil suit and possibly lose his job and possibly have to pay damages to said family.
