It’s Paul Tillich, the theologian that Obama says that Wright has read. I don’t remember what Niebuhr wrote, but he was a socialist in his early years, and then turned on socialism when he fled to the US in his later years. I’m sure that it is Niebuhr’s early writings that Wright quotes to Obama.

The emergent church follows Tillich. Tillich is considered the leading theologian of the twentieth century, at least by the emergent church.

I was doing a search for Tillich and BLT, but most the writing was in books and all I could access were the chapter titles. Since Tillich died before the creation of Liberation Theology, Tillich never addressed the phenomenon, but Tillich's religious socialism was used to for the base of LT. This a link to the best article that I have found on Black Liberation Theology It is clear, easy reading that addresses all the main tenets of BLT.

How many times is CNN going to rerun this speech?

I thought it was rather interesting the precise moments CNN cut away from the speech to go to commercial, and to have Roland Martin and Soledad O'Brien try to explain to me what I'm watching.  The anchor (Rick Sanchez) looked absolutely excited to anchor the whole event and probably thought the whole evening would score points for Obama.

“recovering” refers to my move from a liberal positon years ago to a conservative psoition ( like David Horowitz).
I wasn’t in rehab...just goes to show you have knee jerk reactions and a limited view of what people are recovering from. Try reading David Horowitz’ autobiography.

It does not take a knee jerk to recognize there is something wrong with one who uses the logic you use praising the Rev Wright's "intelligence and learnedness." It shows you are not quiet a conservative as I've know since the early 1960s when I was with the Youth for Goldwater.

After his claptrap about black and white children’s brains and their differential learning styles, I expected him to haul out quotes from Afro-Racists Frances Cress Welsing with her melanin theories about White supremacy, which according to Welsing, began with the birth of albinos in Africa. These “recessive genetic mutants” began to mate with one another and multiply, producing what is now known as the white race.

Besides masking their African origin and proclaiming their affinity with Greece, whites avoid the true meaning of skin whiteness: “a mutation and genetic deficiency state from the Black norm, ‘hue-man’ norm.” White supremacy is a psychological defense mechanism to genetic color inadequacy (whiteness). Dr. Welsing believes whites are “genetically vulnerable,” and therefore overcompensate for their insecurity with oppressive behavior towards people of color. Or Leonard Jefferies, who believes that White people are Ice People who slunk around in the caves of NW Europe untill the black man came along to enlighten them. Wright has appeared with these two at various conferences and venues to add his own supplement to this Afro-Racist drivel.

Most well known sociopaths are very intelligent, myself included.
