Better read Kirk again. Insofar as who is and who is not a conservative Kirk believed that being a conservative was self-defined; however, there were ten broad characteristics that described conservatives. Apparently, you have a set number of issues that you use to define who is and who is not a conservative. If this is true, you have self-defined your conservativism.

You're dissembling. I pointed out contradictions in his thesis and you choose to use them to strengthen his poorly written essay.

I don't have my own brand of conservatism. I am participating in the accepted conservatism that comes closest to my beliefs. I agree with about six of his axioms but there are still too many contradictions in the essay itself.

To call this piece "a masterpiece" is really reaching.

McCain's idea of a "big tent" ideology (and yes, I believe conservatism is an ideology) is to include everyone regardless of their beliefs. His whole platform is one of compromise and capitulation. He won't even stand up for the people in North Carolina who are, by extension, trying to help him.

Is he embarrassed by them? Is his tent limited to those who've never been in the tent before? It sure seems that way to me.

Russell Kirk received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his many efforts. This was given to Kirk by the POTUS (GHWB). You are the only one I can think of who has ever criticized his writing style. But, then, there is a first time for everything.
