Is that first pic from a wog day initiation? A friend said blowing water out of the padeyes was part of the initiation. (sneakers jr. is on a destroyer, and said Wog Day was a blast!)

I'm glad the civvies had fun, but I must admit that some of the glamor wears off after your first WesPac...

He found the anchor room

AKA the fo'c's'le — that's BM country. Stay away...

met and learned the names of everyone in the kitchen

aka the galley — the place you cook the food. The place you eat it is the "mess deck".

I'm glad he had fun!

My son is on the GW at this moment. :-)
He loves it. He’s in air conditioning and refrigeration right now and is taking classes to get certified to work in hydraulics (lifting and lowering the aircraft on the elevators).
My family got to go on board and take a very small tour last month. The most difficult part, for me, was getting up and down the ladder-wells. I did it, though, and did it well, surprisingly. I was VERY sore at the end of the day, however. Sure builds the leg muscles.

I guess he’s no longer a pollywog. ;-)

He’s a slimy wog until he’s initiated. LOL!!

My son is in Yokosuka Japan and his ship is part of the Kitty Hawk strike group. I expect he’ll be part of the GW strike group when she takes the Kitty’s place! What’s your son think about going to Japan?

Hey, no apology necessary! Sorry if I was rude. I really am glad your pop had a good time.

He’s pretty excited about it. He just got married and his wife will be flying over to meet him in July. He’s really pretty good at what he does and has earned a lot of respect on the ship. (He gets the job done.)

Good for him! Best of luck to him and his new bride! They’ll be in good company there. Nate adapted to Japan just fine. He’s been there since Sept. 2005. It’s been quite an experience.

This GW can still dive...although surfacing again is a bit tricky...
